Sega is not embracing the new era of streaming so much as giving it an affectionate side hug.
When Stadia launches in November, one of its launch window titles will be Sega's Football Manager. It's not necessarily the best showcase for streaming's ability to enable demanding games to run on under-powered devices, but it is a first step into a new era of on-demand streaming that Sega sees full of potential, as Sega Europe COO and president Gary Dale, executive vice president of publishing John Clark, and VP of marketing Anna Downing explain to GamesIndustry.biz during last week's Electronic Entertainment Expo.
"The thought of people on low-end laptops being able to play games like Football Manager and Total War is something we really embrace and support, so we're really interested to see how all the players push forward with significant streaming announcements and services," Clark says. "I think bandwidth is a very important thing, just to see how the services function. So we'll look at Google Stadia's rollout with a lot of interest to see how that maps out. And for the future, we're all interested to see how economies of streaming are going to work, the business models, etc.
"At this point, streaming and cloud have been around for a long time. We worked in the old days with Gaikai and OnLive, and we've worked with PlayStation Now since. But it really seems like this is an interesting time for bigger players to come through and make a significant impact."

Sega's publishing rights for Alpha Protocol have now expired, resulting in the game's removal from Steam.
Eurogamer noticed that the Steam page for Obsidian Entertainment's spy-themed RPG featured the following statement from Sega, which published the game in May 2010.
"Notice: At the request of the publisher, Alpha Protocol is no longer available for sale on Steam."
A spokesperson for Sega clarified that the withdrawal of Alpha Protocol was due to the expiration of the company's publishing rights, putting the game back in the hands of Obsidian Entertainment.

SSF PreviewVer R2 is released. SSF is a Sega Saturn emulator for Windows systems using DirectX 9.0b. The current version claims near-complete implementation of the Sega Saturn hardware (not counting emulation bugs), and can emulate the Saturn based Sega Titan Video arcade hardware too. As with most emulators, CDs or disc images are not included and have to be owned separately. The BIOS is also not included; as of 0.07 Beta R3, games run without the BIOS however. The usage of BIOS files is optional but recommended for better compatibility, and needed for tasks such as management of the contents of the internal memory of the Sega Saturn, or setting the system clock.

Switchblade was a game originally developed by Core Design (Tomb Raider, Rick Dangerous, Wolfchild, etc), and published by Gremlin Interactive (Top Gear, Body Harvest, Zool). Piko Interactive, who owns the IP now, brought up a Kickstarter to get funding for the Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis release. 45 US$ and a copy is yours!

Developer Ys Net announced today during the PC Gaming Show at E3 2019 that Shenmue III will be the latest title to go Epic Games store-exclusive on PC.
Shenmue III was originally announced back in 2015 at Sony's E3 event, but at the time it was announced as a Kickstarter campaign by developer Yu Suzuki. The initial announcement pitched the game as for PC and PS4 without a specific mention of Steam; however, the game later received a Steam store page that is still live at the time this piece was written.

It’s been 26 long years since Sketch Turner got caught up in his own comic, being forced to face powerful creatures, defiant puzzles and solid rocks… yes, solid rocks and barrels and other adamantium made objects that deprive sketch the right to live with its imposing hardness!!!, but now, thanks to its strict training and diet based on dairy products, Sketch Turner (better known now as “The Calcium Kid”), has developed large and strong bones and knucles capable of shattering any obstacle that stands between him and the final page, without receiving a single scratch. Likewise, the excessive consumption of dairy products has caused the metabolism of Sketch to take advantage of 100% the nutrients of a refreshing glass of milk, thus fully healed after each drink. Now that you’ve grown big and strong like Melvin the elephant, do you think you can defeat Mordus and his filthy henchmen and return to the real world leaving behind an incredible life of super hero and return to be a hungry loser comix artist?

Intrepid Izzy by Senile Team combines platforming, beat ’em up and adventure elements to create a unique experience with depth, character and above all, fun. Here comes the May 2019 development update:
Quote:The East Pole
This month a lot of progress was made on the snowiest of levels. A lot of playable areas were made, and we’ve been hard at work to include some nice graphical touches, such as a pretty ice bridge.
It’s going to be a fun level (if we do say so ourselves), which will require some exploration and costume switching in order to conquer it. And I’m sure there will be some secret chest somewhere as well 🙂
In order to get to the East Pole you will need some transportation, i.e. Boaty McB, which we first showed in the April update. Naturally a boat also needs a home, so we are building Awesometown a small harbour!
I dream of Dreamcasts
The Dreamcast version of the game may be the most popular among our backers, and we certainly haven’t forgotten about it. So please enjoy some Dreamcasty screenshots!
You may notice that there is some banding in the Dreamcast screenshots. Please note that this will be fixed in the final release.
On the technical side, Roel has further automated the build process. Meaning that making and testing the Dreamcast version of Intrepid Izzy will be quicker and easier from now on.
Other stuff!
- Some small, but difficult to find bugs have been fixed, e.g. timing and physics bugs.
- Re-balanced the coins: you get four times as many, but the prices have also gone up (except for the arcade). Inflation hard at work!
- Prioritized some details in order to have a nice demo for the Animecon (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) on June 15.
- Roel switched jobs. This time it’s a part-time job for 4 days a week and it’s also closer to home. So this will leave him with more spare time = more Izzy development time.
