Legendary game developer Yu Suzuki has said SEGA will "probably" let him create Shenmue 3.
"Probably SEGA will let me make it," he told an audience at the Game Developers Conference. "I think. It's simply a problem of budget."
SEGA put an end to the expensive, revered Shenmue series after a second Dreamcast instalment. Simply, sales didn't justify the investment.
"Well, I want to make it," Suzuki said of a third game in the series, as reported by Gamasutra. "About 200 people will buy it, I think. But funding is an issue."
The first Shemue game, apparently, "only" cost $47 million to make – and that was in 1999. "Well, maybe I shouldn't say only," he joked. "We spent it on development and marketing... actually where did we spend it again?"
Last year Suzuki tantalisingly teased that Shenmue 3 was much more than a fantasy - it existed. "The concept for Shenmue 3 already exists, so..." Suzuki said.
"Shenmue 3 doesn't expand outward, but inward," he said at the time. "A lot of the dialogue is used for the main character and especially dialogue with Shenhua [the girl]. They [Shenhua and Ryo] talk about a lot of different, deeper things.
"This is not actually in the game, but an example to give you an idea of what I mean by deeper dialogue: when Shenhua and Ryo are at home, Shenhua will ask Ryo if he would like to drink tea or coffee and the player will select one or the other. Or, Shenhua will ask Ryo a hypothetical question like: 'There are four animals; a monkey, cat, dog and bird. You are crossing the river but you need to leave one behind. Which one will you leave behind?' And the player has to choose one.
"Shenhua will ask lots and lots of questions like these and the answers will get stored in the game and affect the outcome of the player's relationship with other characters. It's like a personality test. For example, the person who leaves behind the monkey is the type of person who leaves their wife."
Shenmue 2 was released in 2001, and may have been the most anticipated Dreamcast game ever.

If you'd like to play Sega's Dreamcast Collection without actually collecting any boxes, you can do that now. The four-game compilation is now available for PC download through the Steam service, for $29.99. It was released as an Xbox 360 disc on February 22.
You can also purchase the games individually, if you're only interested in one or, perhaps, have enough copies of Crazy Taxi in your house. Each of the four games is available for $8.99 each. So for the price of a pizza, you could have the wonderful Space Channel 5 Part 2. Go ahead and get that pizza too. You deserve it!

While the Sega Dreamcast has long been out of production, there is an avid fanbase that loves the console dearly. As with many CD/DVD-based consoles, the Dreamcast can sometimes run into issues reading discs, at which point all games are unplayable.
Instructables user [Andrew] got his hands on a pair of the consoles and found that one could not read CDs, while the other suffered from a fried controller interface board, the result of a controller wiring mix-up on his part. Determined to get the consoles up and running again, he disassembled them and got to work, sharing his fixes with us.
The CD drive fix is a pretty standard one. He first needed to locate the potentiometer that regulates the laser. Once he did, a slight counter-clockwise turn is all it required in order to increase the laser’s voltage. Once he did this, he popped in a game to see if it worked. No longer greeted with a disc read error when he powered on his Dreamcast, he reassembled the console and began work on the other one.
To fix his controller issues, [Andrew] had to remove the entire controller board from the console. He eventually located a resistor that had been damaged by his wiring mishap, and replaced it. The console was tested and seeing that the controllers worked again, he put everything back together.
While this pair of fixes is not incredibly complex, it’s nice to see people sharing their tips for bringing these consoles back to life.

level_order() uses the first argument to set the loadingbg type. However, in load_level() the first argument is the image location for the background. This implies that if defined we are to use background + bar. This keeps us backward compatible with all existing mods. Strange that I never had the modder specify this before, Hence, this was a bug. All mods ie Contra, Final Fight, GoldenAxeRemake and more now display a background when loading a level.

How does one pay tribute to such a great console as the late Sega Dreamcast? With coolswag, of course. To celebrate the company's final console -- and the release of Dreamcast Collection -- Sega manufactured a limited run of the title's soundtrack on vinyl. This snow-white record was intended only for Australia, but we got our hands on a few to give to you (because we kinda, y'know, like you). Some really sharp Dreamcast hoodies were also made. They're zip-up, with orange hood lining and draw strings, plus an embroidered Dreamcast logo on the front and the Dreamcast swirl above the words "Still Thinking ... " on the back.
Four lucky readers will win a package consisting of one soundtrack vinyl, one sweatshirt and one copy of Dreamcast Collection for Xbox 360. Head past the break for the full contest rules, and good luck!

I missed this one over the weekend. I always like to keep up to date on the latest fan games, hacks and happenings of the Sonic fan community. Here is another big project coming from the forums of Sonic Retro by a community member by the name of Hez. This game has had an astonishing 12 year development cycle!
Aside from possessing the Duke Nukem Forever curse this one has one of the most beautiful engines I've seen and it almost perfectly replicates the classic 16-bit Sonic sidescrollers from the early 1990s. The game kind of gives me a CD/3&K vibe from the few levels I've played of it so far its nice that your given the freedom to play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles (the only playable characters that really matter to retro fans). Be warned though, its a bit of a toughy and a few over at Sonic Retro have complained about this already. There's an ongoing argument over at Retro whether its merely difficult or a case of bad level design. Personally I think its tough in a good way and since fan games are largely directed towards the hardcore fans in the first place then it should be created with a bit of challenge for its intended audience of veterans.
Anyways here's the link for the full version.
Sonic Classic (Full Game) | With Music
There also exists some mirrors in the release thread
I'm also going to try and host a mirror on DCEmu here as well once the first revision of the final game comes out in a week or so.
