Cool Herders has been extended, finished and released as a Commercial Dreamcast release through Goat Store. Definately visit the forum for more information!
This game was originally created for the Dreamcast specifically for inclusion as a demo on the DC Tonic E3 Demo CD. Now, it has been completed for commercial release through GOAT Store. See box above.
This download is a new demo based on the released code, and is no longer related to the old version from DC Tonic.
Notes
This is a very simplified demo - it includes only the New Zealand multiplayer stages (3 in total) and 3 selectable players. For differences between the demo and the release, see the Release Comparison Chart.
Hi all its time to expand the DCEmu Homebrew & Gaming Network by another site and this time the Sega Saturn and its Homebrew and Emulation Scene is the target, we have all the emulators released and news and links to the best in Homebrew on the new site.
Hi all this is really an announcement to say that we have implemented open newsposting for all Staff and Coders across all our network sites (doesnt include developers sites).
So this means any Staff member or Developer/Coder can post news and upload releases to our forums which are News forums.
Our News forums cover all these consoles
Dreamcast
Sega Saturn
GBA
Nintendo DS
PSP
PS3
Xbox
Xbox360
PS2

Revolution
Nokia N-Gage
Ipod
Tapwave Zodiac
Gizmondo
If your a Developer/Coder then please upload your releases to the forum (and please dont use those crappy file upload services) and promote your releases and get the much needed feedback you deserve.
Releases can be in Zip or Rar format and Screenshots can be in a host of formats, if directly linking a screenshot in a newspost and not uploading please dont use Bitmaps as they can be massive for dial up users.
If posting news try and source as best as possible but be wary of sites that mislink etc.
Thats all folks, the sites and forums are looked after 24hrs a day by admin and staff around the world, we also have a Private Developers forum for Coders who wish us to release for them or people can use any of our Submit News forums.
In an interview with the Tech Digest(approve sites) website, Sega Europe CEO Mike Hayes was asked about rumors of a comeback of the Dreamcast?. His reply was short and clear : "There are no plans for Dreamcast to make a comeback."
So there you have it. If DC fan's had any new hope after the great sales of Under Defeat, they can let it go now. But at least our beloved console is still alive after all these years!
According to G.Rev's latest magazine entry (here, or you can see the babelfish translation here), the regular edition of Under Defeat has completely sold out and they've had to do a reprint. Apparently, there's not many of the limited edition left either. This appears to have come as a bit of a shock to them!
Wow, we knew that Under Defeat did well,(was No1 in sega's "Sega Direct" shop in their charts, when released). But SOLD OUT.... Thats cazy!
Things are look good for the Dreamcast (well in japan at least)
It would appear that Konami has given a shout-out to the dance game for the Dreamcast that was inspired by Konami's own Dance Dance Revolution games: Feet of Fury.
In Harmonix's and Konami's Karaoke Revolution Party, if you get a platinum record (20000 or more) on the sing and dance mode (microphone + dancemat combo) on expert , you get a trophy that says "Feet of Fury".
The font that is used in the logo is an exact duplicate of the Feet of Fury logo.
You can see a screen capture I took with a digital camera, and read comments by Dan Potter of Cryptic Allusion (the makers of Feet of Fury) in this thread on the Cryptic Allusion forums.
AtariAge has Feet of Fury on sale as part of their spring clearance. You can pick it up for just $4.95US at their <a href="http://www.atariage.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=252"> AtariAge Store</a>.
The guys ove at Got Next have reviewed the latest excellent selling Under Defeat Game, heres an excerpt from that review:
Rumored to be the final release for Sega's tenacious last console, Under Defeat pushes the aging hardware to new heights. Set in an alternate reality resembling the WWII era, replete with some stylish retro designs, it can be a sight to behold. The level of detail is unprecedented, with screen-shaking explosions that scatter debris across the screen, leaving trails of black smoke as flaming wreckage slams apart as it collides with ground. A far cry from the small "popcorn" explosions that litter most shooters, Under Defeat's intense effects pack a gratifying whallop that makes you feel good about the havoc you've wreaked. It's hard not to smile with satisfaction as you watch a massive battleship explode, smolder and then sink into the sea as the water sent upward in the blast trickles back down, spattering off your helicopter's rotors. It's these fine brushstrokes that make the action a joy to behold. Indeed, I would say that Under Defeat could well be the most visually stunning game in its genre, on any platform.
This is an excellent review of an awesome Dreamcast Game, if you liked Thunderblade then you are in for a treat, check out the full review here --> http://www.got-next.com/features_read.php?id=342
In G rev's latest magazine entry, There was news of Under Defeat Selling out, but the rest was too difficult translate. Thankfully, our Scene hero Yakumo was able to translate port of the entry for us non Japanese DC sceners. Thanks chief!
"It is spring now but you wouldn't know it due to the strange climate we've had recently. However soon we will be able to see the cherry blossoms.
Weekly G.rev communication.
We are very happy with the sales of Under Defeat. It sold so well that it sold out! So we have made a small 2nd print run of the regular version. The limited Edition version is sold out. "
Great to hear that now even more people will be able to experience this awesome title.
Metafox already posted this but i feel that it deserves a post here at DCEmu Uk too:
The Sandman demo disc will include a set of binary loaders that will allow for shareware to be sold via the internet, and unlocked on the disc, so that the customer will get a regular physical professionally pressed CD, rather than a digital download.
It's a set of loaders that are in place for a commercial purchasing system. The system displays a set of demos. If the proper code is inputted (which is given by purchasing the game via the dreamonmagazine.com website), the loader saves a file to the VMU, and the demo becomes the full game. The loader then can either start from The Sandman magazine disc normally, or start from the purchased game automatically like a regular commercial game. If the user purchases more than one software item, and chooses the option to start the game like a commercial game without showing the Dream On menu, a seperate game menu will be loaded, and the user will be able to choose which games he wishes to play from that list. The binary loaders can also show a seperate menu for a particular coder if that coder chooses to release a lot of shareware on Dream On, and wishes to have a compilation-style menu of their programs on the disc.
The magazine-disc style distribution will allow the games to be sold at a much lower price than the standard distribution prices. A cost of just a couple dollars for a game could be possible, as the percentage that a coder would have to pay Dream On for the services will be quite low as well.
The first issue of Dream On will include the loaders hidden within the Beneath a Steel Sky entry on The Sandman disc, so that a demo of the shareware binary loaders can be shown to any coder who is interested.
If anyone has any comments, questions, or suggestions about this - please feel free to leave them in this topic.
Many of you will know i used to have an Interview site with Great Interviews with Coders from many Homebrew Scenes.
Well with that in mind, im going to try something unique and whilst it may fail it is something that ive never seen done before and thats a mass interview of all the members and thats 40,000 + members , whats going to happen is that ill ask maybe 10- 12 questions, one a day over a 2 week period to see who we are and what we love about emulation and homebrew.
So to start the ball rolling (remember never give personal info out unless you feel safe doing so) ill ask a question and answer it myself then its over to you the members of the only Console Homebrew Network in the world.
Question #1 - Can you tell us about yourself, where you're from, and about your job, school, etc?
(yes easy one to start but it lets people know about you)
Well im the webmaster of a group of sites now totalling 18 (mad git), ive been a fan and more of emulation and homebrew since at least 1997.
I am from the city of Nottingham in the UK, famous for Robin Hood, Torvill and Dean and Nottingham Forest and sadly Gun Crime capital of the UK (it seems that way anyway).
Went to school at 2 sites in probably the roughest part of the city but on the whole enjoyed school but was glad to be rid of it .
For my job ive been a Gardener on an award winning park for nearon 18 years (i am 34 btw) and whilst i enjoy my job i cant see me doing it for years to come.
So thats my answers, feel free to join in this experiment of a mass interview on the DCEmu Network, answer via the comments.

Retrogaming with Racketboy has a piece looking at some of the console-defining titles we miss from that little white box. From the article: "Phantasy Star Online - Sega was one of the main pioneers in online console gaming. While they had modest online offering with both the Genesis and Saturn, the Dreamcast was the first of their consoles to have online capabilities built into the stock machine. The Dreamcast came standard with a 56k modem and also had a (expensive) LAN/Broadband adapter available as an upgrade. Phantasy Star Online paved the way for Sega's groundbreaking online network and for later networks like XBox Live.
"Another posthumous Dreamcast release, another Naomi shmup port. After a string of releases that have hardly set the DC alight and perhaps been somewhat overshadowed by the release of the graphical showpony that is Under Defeat, is Radirgy any good or is it more of the same...."

As you may have noticed over the last day, the DreamZone forums have moved to a new address. Our forums can still be accessed from their old location, as you will be automatically re-directed to the new location. However, for your records, the new address of the forums is http://dreamzoneboards.com/
Also, DCHelp has moved to a new address, on a new server. You can now visit DCHelp by visiting http://dchelp.net/ The old site will be removed from the server today, and a script will be put in place to automatically re-direct you to our new address.
In addition, we have obtained an additional hosting plan, and have added mirrored copies of all of our image downloads. Very soon, the links for all of our image downloads will be changed, in order to make use of our new mirror.
Finally, we have also started a project at SourceForge, in order to host all of our Open-Source image downloads. If you ever have trouble downloading our images from either of our in-house locations, you can now pop over to http://sourceforge.net/projects/dcevolution and see if the file you are trying to download is available there.
If you have our sites bookmarked, please go ahead and update those bookmarks with the new addresses.
More exciting news from the DCEvo Network will be coming very soon.
Eric posted in this topic about a project that he, Atani and Michael (from IS04 team )
They are looking for help with a project for the dreamcast, its a First Person Shooter. So if anyone wants to be apart of the team please leave a reply.
<blockquote>I'm at the end of the shipping list at the moment (it got up to a lot more than I expected before I closed preorders - thanks a bunch). The first batch was shipped yesterday. I'm shipping out more today, and should be finished with the shipping by tomorrow or Saturday.</blockquote>
In the April issue of Linux Magazine/France (n°82) there are 7 pages about developing for Dreamcast. The cover Feet of Fury, Alice Dreams, Chankast, and boob.co.uk as well as a host of other things.
Got-Next.com has interviewed Hiroyuki Maruyama the president of G.rev (Border Down, Under Defeat). Its and interesting interview, below I have quoted the questions/answers about the Dreamcast
<blockquote> GN: How would you feel about making a console-exclusive title without any arcade release?
HM: It's not out of the question at some point, but for the time being, we don't intend to. If Under Defeat was a console original, and it weren't billed as "the last game for the Dreamcast", it's probably safe to say that in Japan, few people would've noticed it, and it would've quietly disappeared.
GN: Some were surprised to see Under Defeat released for the Sega Dreamcast. Are you happy with the game's sales performance on DC, and do you think it will be made available for other systems in the future?
HM: We weren't planning on it selling much to begin with, so it did surpass our expectations. In the future (at least a year down the road), I can't rule out a port to another console, but at the moment there are no plans to do so. Besides, if we had that kind of time we'd rather just make a new game.
GN: Do you think there's a possibility of future releases for the Dreamcast from G.rev?
HM: Again, it's not out of the question, but it's not our decision alone to make, so it would be very difficult.
Under Defeat was also billed as the "final" Dreamcast release. If we look like we bailed out, then came back just because it sold well, I think that would actually be an insult to Dreamcast players.
</blockquote>
Does this mean that Under Defeat could be the dreamcast's last official game? I hope not...

<blockquote>As of may 20th it will be free for JP users to log onto dreamcast PSO. This may have something to do with the release of PSU, or just a treat for those who have been loyal over the years. Just an interesting bit of news. Though mind u this doesnt affect NTSC USA players, the only way for them to play is on the private servers.

This also does not effect PAL Euro users, as we always had it for free, and still do
The next stop for the DreamCon 2006 tour is the Midwest Gaming Classic (June 3-4, Olympia Resort Center • Oconomowoc, WI).
The official DreamCon Page at Midwest Gaming Classic is here
Metafox is planning more places to hold the DreamCon this year, which you can vote for here at dcemulation.com
Unfortunetaly there are no DreamCons planned for anywhere outside of the USA, but Metafox said that he would support anyone that would like to organise one in europe.
ScummVM support for The Legend of Kyrandia is now complete!
This means that they now need you, their users, to give them a helping hand. In order to root out any remaining bugs, extensive testing is sorely needed. So, please dig up your (legal!) copies of Kyrandia 1, download a SVN snapshot of ScummVM and the required Kyra data file from the Downloads page, and post any bugs you find to their Bug tracker . Any other issues can be discussed in their forum.
Currently both CD and floppy editions are supported in their own language. English, French, German and Spanish versions are fully supported, but any other PC (and hopefully Mac) version should work as well (albeit with some text in English, and some interface graphics missing). If you have an unsupported version, they'd love to hear from you! Note that Amiga versions are unfortunately not supported at all at this time.
MAME4ALL romset is a MAME 0.34/0.35 romset based.
Others romset, like newest MAMEs, is not valid. See MAME GP2X website.
The best method is copy to /roms all MAME GP2X zipped roms except NeoGeo roms.
Also it is good idea to use Windows version available for testing romset.
<blockquote>
i've just succeeded in compiling Neo4All RC1, and changed the button configuration to work good with a NEOGEO PS2 PAD on DC......
So now you can plug a PS2 NEOGEO pad on DC and it should work (It works with my pad and my adaptor ...)
