Runik has released a Sega Saturn Emulator for Windows called Saturnin, heres the info from the last release:
Grab the Saturnin 0.40 Christmas release version
I've done a lot of work since the last release, you can check the change.log file bundled with the emulator for details ...
This version has sound, is way more compatible than the previous one, and is reaaaaally slow :P There isn't any sound during the bios logo due to the lack of DSP, but I assure you that sound is working (check the Cotton games in ST-V for instance )
I will work on the speed for the next version, and I'll try to release more than one version a year ...
As always, read the help file fully before emailing me or writing for info in the forums ... your answers might already be there :P
If you can't find a specific answer about your problem, there's a FAQ thread in the forums that can be updated with your input
As usual, if you want to translate Saturnin in your own language, send me back the translated str file and I'll put it online (the english version is bundled with the emulator in the langage directory).
So far italian and greek are done, and english and french are bundled with the emulator.
So that's it for now
Merry Christmas to everyone !

All info from my pal Dark Watchers Console Site

Sega Saturn
In development for 2 to 3 years by Sega of Japan, The project known merely as GigaDrive (A word play for a more powerful Megadrive) began with a goal of being the most powerful 2D console to date with 3D capability based on their arcade Model 1 hardware.
Initially the goal was to surpass another CD-based console called the 3DO. In November of 1993, technical specs for 32-bit CD-based console by Sony had surfaced. Not being pleased with the projects 3D capability (compared to Sony’s), Sega of Japan’s engineers scrambled to improve on the design.
Using planet-naming conventions used for their other projects (Like Mars and Neptune), the new console was called the Sega Saturn. It was released in Japan on November 22nd 1994, and was an immediate success. Sega had finally made a serious mark in Japan by even surpassing their long-term rival Nintendo (Sega consoles were more successful in the US markets in the past).
They would however have to face a new contender to the market. Sony finally released the Playstation, and used their financial stability (deep ass pockets) to produce a strong marketing campaign, garner the attention of 3rd party developers, and purchase exclusive rights to game titles. Sony ambitiously cornered popular game genres in Japan, but Sega countered with impressive 2D shooters, fighting games, and hentai titles (those Japanese...hahaha). The Saturn still sold remarkably well, and so Sega set their eyes on other markets.
The original scheduled release for the US Saturn was supposed to be ‘Saturnday’ September 2nd 1995. However with the Sony Playstation US premier looming over the horizon, Sega chose to release their console 4 months sooner (May 11th, 1995). They got the jump on the market that they needed, but caught developers off guard. The console was released with a high $399 price tag, and a lack of 3rd Party software titles.
Even after the stinging failure of the 32X, the Saturn still managed to sell pretty well initially. However, the Sony Playstation was eventually released for $100 cheaper, and eventually took over the US market. The Saturn failed to capture the success it garnered in Japan. So what happened?
The Saturn boasted an amazing amount of processors including it’s dual Hitachi CPU processors. However, this caused problems in game development. Apparently the two CPU’s did not run in tandem, and could not access memory at the same time. The complexity either caused developers to shy away from the Saturn, or develop games in a manner that didn’t fully utilize the systems capabilities (3rd Party developers initially designed games only using a single processor). Eventually developers found away around Saturn’s complexity, but not soon enough.
Another contributing factor to Saturn's struggle in America was Sega of America's management. Sega’s mishandling and eventual abandonment of 32X had already damaged Sega’s credibility. The early release left some retail stores without Saturn stock, and the initial high price did not help sales. Also, Sega of America did a piss poor job of advertising the Sega Saturn. They also made the mistake of not bringing many quality Japanese Saturn game titles over to the United States. Eventually the market grew more hostile with the release of Nintendo’s 64-bit ‘next generation’ system.
The Saturn may not have done well in the American market, but in Japan the Saturn was a hot item. The console saw amazing game titles, which also became hot imports in America and Europe. The hardware specs were also licensed out to component manufacturers allowing them the ability to build their own model Saturns, and spread the console out further. These models were available in Japan only.
Shown above is the V-Saturn, which was developed by JVC. It is technically a clone of the Saturn with a different outward appearance, a different boot screen, and Photo CD reading compatibility with a JVC Twin Operator card. The Hi-Saturn was developed by Hitachi, and had native MPEG decompression for viewing VCD (Video CD). Another Hitachi model was released that also contained a modem, LCD play screen, and built in navigation systems for use in vehicles. Finally a Skeleton Saturn was released with a case that showcased the units circuitry.
All in all Saturn was an amazing console that produced beautiful 2D gaming, and brilliant 3D titles toward the end of it’s life cycle. Saturn was supported in the US until 1998 and in Japan until 1999.
FACT: One of the more innovative concepts of the Saturn was the cartridge slot. The slot itself was not meant for gaming, but could be used in a variety of ways (EXAMPLES). The more common uses were for an external memory cart for save game portability, and for cheat devices such as the ‘Game Shark’. However the slot was also used for Sega Netlink. This was a 28.8 modem built in a cart that could be used to access the web, check email, and even play someone online who also has Netlink. Another use that was never seen outside of Japan were RAM carts. These carts provided the Saturn with up to 4Mb additional RAM for better and more fluid sprite animation in certain select games. Goes to show some of the things we missed out on in America.

News from the Rockin-B of his Snes Emu for the Sega Saturn News:
If you would have asked me if there will ever be an SNES emu on Saturn, I'd said never, without a doubt. But then there came z-roc requesting a SNES emu on Saturn in return for a nice donation. Okay, I was up for it and the more progress I had, the more excited I got and I thought: this guy really made a good thing, without him this would have never been.
Okay, that's certainly true, but what's true, too, is that his offer was not a serious one. I stopped my work immediately and after being tricked that way, I don't have plans to bring this project further.
features:
requires 4MB RAM cart
max. ROM size: something between 2-3 MByte
CD browser
frameskip setting
unfinshed = gfx glitches
compatibility: unknown
speed: faster than I expected, not yet optimized in any way

Sega Saturn News is happy to host the files for Rockin-Bs excellent Sega Saturn Homebrew Roms Site, heres more info:
This is THE THING for people who want to play Saturn homebrew. There are over 80 Atlas Game Packs available for download, with screenshot, thumbnail, short description and further info. Most people will not know most of the demos and games there, simply because noone would have ever burned 80 CDs to try them out.
Make your selection, download the AGPs you like and create your very own Saturn compilation using Atlas Creator! Just put the AGPs into the AGP subfolder of Atlas Creator and hit MakeIso.bat. It's really that simple!
And by the way: it turns you Saturn into a retro gaming jukebox. I've spent much time to create all these AGPs, the screenshots, the descriptions and stuff and I've even recorded some very nice and popular Mega Drive game tunes which are played back in the main menu.
I've already burned 3 different discs for my personal use, hehe. (of course everything fit's on just two CDs, the third one is my latests The Rockin'-B All Stars).
People already know the bootloader Atlas and that it can be used to create Saturn CDs (with up to 50 games on, presented with some nice menu) like The Rockin'-B All Stars and C4 2005 CD. But it's been rather difficult to create those discs, for the average user.
Now Atlas Creator is out for Windows and MacOS X (and *nix, as it comes with source). It introduces the concept of Atlas Game Packs which is similar to SBI files for Dreamcast. The tool can create Atlas Game Packs and from a collection of such AGPs, it can create Saturn CD images with one or multiple games on and it can even create a HTML website showing all details of your AGP collection. This feature is used to create the Atlas Game Packs website.
Included in the distribution are 4 skins/themes which effect the look of the main Atlas menu on Saturn. Two of them have been created by Arnold (thanks a lot!), one is MacOS X like and the fourth one is that of The Rockin'-B All Stars.

News from Dreamcast Scene:
In an interview with the Tech Digest(approve sites) website, Sega Europe CEO Mike Hayes was asked about rumors of a comeback of the Dreamcast?. His reply was short and clear : "There are no plans for Dreamcast to make a comeback."
So there you have it. If DC fan's had any new hope after the great sales of Under Defeat, they can let it go now. But at least our beloved console is still alive after all these years!

According to G.Rev's latest magazine entry (here, or you can see the babelfish translation here), the regular edition of Under Defeat has completely sold out and they've had to do a reprint. Apparently, there's not many of the limited edition left either. This appears to have come as a bit of a shock to them!
Wow, we knew that Under Defeat did well,(was No1 in sega's "Sega Direct" shop in their charts, when released). But SOLD OUT.... Thats cazy!
Things are look good for the Dreamcast (well in japan at least)

It would appear that Konami has given a shout-out to the dance game for the Dreamcast that was inspired by Konami's own Dance Dance Revolution games: Feet of Fury.
In Harmonix's and Konami's Karaoke Revolution Party, if you get a platinum record (20000 or more) on the sing and dance mode (microphone + dancemat combo) on expert , you get a trophy that says "Feet of Fury".
The font that is used in the logo is an exact duplicate of the Feet of Fury logo.
You can see a screen capture I took with a digital camera, and read comments by Dan Potter of Cryptic Allusion (the makers of Feet of Fury) in this thread on the Cryptic Allusion forums.

The guys ove at Got Next have reviewed the latest excellent selling Under Defeat Game, heres an excerpt from that review:
Rumored to be the final release for Sega's tenacious last console, Under Defeat pushes the aging hardware to new heights. Set in an alternate reality resembling the WWII era, replete with some stylish retro designs, it can be a sight to behold. The level of detail is unprecedented, with screen-shaking explosions that scatter debris across the screen, leaving trails of black smoke as flaming wreckage slams apart as it collides with ground. A far cry from the small "popcorn" explosions that litter most shooters, Under Defeat's intense effects pack a gratifying whallop that makes you feel good about the havoc you've wreaked. It's hard not to smile with satisfaction as you watch a massive battleship explode, smolder and then sink into the sea as the water sent upward in the blast trickles back down, spattering off your helicopter's rotors. It's these fine brushstrokes that make the action a joy to behold. Indeed, I would say that Under Defeat could well be the most visually stunning game in its genre, on any platform.
This is an excellent review of an awesome Dreamcast Game, if you liked Thunderblade then you are in for a treat, check out the full review here --> http://www.got-next.com/features_read.php?id=342

In G rev's latest magazine entry, There was news of Under Defeat Selling out, but the rest was too difficult translate. Thankfully, our Scene hero Yakumo was able to translate port of the entry for us non Japanese DC sceners. Thanks chief!
"It is spring now but you wouldn't know it due to the strange climate we've had recently. However soon we will be able to see the cherry blossoms.
Weekly G.rev communication.
We are very happy with the sales of Under Defeat. It sold so well that it sold out! So we have made a small 2nd print run of the regular version. The limited Edition version is sold out. "
Great to hear that now even more people will be able to experience this awesome title.

Metafox already posted this but i feel that it deserves a post here at DCEmu Uk too:
The Sandman demo disc will include a set of binary loaders that will allow for shareware to be sold via the internet, and unlocked on the disc, so that the customer will get a regular physical professionally pressed CD, rather than a digital download.
It's a set of loaders that are in place for a commercial purchasing system. The system displays a set of demos. If the proper code is inputted (which is given by purchasing the game via the dreamonmagazine.com website), the loader saves a file to the VMU, and the demo becomes the full game. The loader then can either start from The Sandman magazine disc normally, or start from the purchased game automatically like a regular commercial game. If the user purchases more than one software item, and chooses the option to start the game like a commercial game without showing the Dream On menu, a seperate game menu will be loaded, and the user will be able to choose which games he wishes to play from that list. The binary loaders can also show a seperate menu for a particular coder if that coder chooses to release a lot of shareware on Dream On, and wishes to have a compilation-style menu of their programs on the disc.
The magazine-disc style distribution will allow the games to be sold at a much lower price than the standard distribution prices. A cost of just a couple dollars for a game could be possible, as the percentage that a coder would have to pay Dream On for the services will be quite low as well.
The first issue of Dream On will include the loaders hidden within the Beneath a Steel Sky entry on The Sandman disc, so that a demo of the shareware binary loaders can be shown to any coder who is interested.
If anyone has any comments, questions, or suggestions about this - please feel free to leave them in this topic.

Many of you will know i used to have an Interview site with Great Interviews with Coders from many Homebrew Scenes.
Well with that in mind, im going to try something unique and whilst it may fail it is something that ive never seen done before and thats a mass interview of all the members and thats 40,000 + members , whats going to happen is that ill ask maybe 10- 12 questions, one a day over a 2 week period to see who we are and what we love about emulation and homebrew.
So to start the ball rolling (remember never give personal info out unless you feel safe doing so) ill ask a question and answer it myself then its over to you the members of the only Console Homebrew Network in the world.
Question #1 - Can you tell us about yourself, where you're from, and about your job, school, etc?
(yes easy one to start but it lets people know about you)
Well im the webmaster of a group of sites now totalling 18 (mad git), ive been a fan and more of emulation and homebrew since at least 1997.
I am from the city of Nottingham in the UK, famous for Robin Hood, Torvill and Dean and Nottingham Forest and sadly Gun Crime capital of the UK (it seems that way anyway).
Went to school at 2 sites in probably the roughest part of the city but on the whole enjoyed school but was glad to be rid of it .
For my job ive been a Gardener on an award winning park for nearon 18 years (i am 34 btw) and whilst i enjoy my job i cant see me doing it for years to come.
So thats my answers, feel free to join in this experiment of a mass interview on the DCEmu Network, answer via the comments.

Retrogaming with Racketboy has a piece looking at some of the console-defining titles we miss from that little white box. From the article: "Phantasy Star Online - Sega was one of the main pioneers in online console gaming. While they had modest online offering with both the Genesis and Saturn, the Dreamcast was the first of their consoles to have online capabilities built into the stock machine. The Dreamcast came standard with a 56k modem and also had a (expensive) LAN/Broadband adapter available as an upgrade. Phantasy Star Online paved the way for Sega's groundbreaking online network and for later networks like XBox Live.

Thanks to Dreamcast Scene for this news:
"Another posthumous Dreamcast release, another Naomi shmup port. After a string of releases that have hardly set the DC alight and perhaps been somewhat overshadowed by the release of the graphical showpony that is Under Defeat, is Radirgy any good or is it more of the same...."

As you may have noticed over the last day, the DreamZone forums have moved to a new address. Our forums can still be accessed from their old location, as you will be automatically re-directed to the new location. However, for your records, the new address of the forums is http://dreamzoneboards.com/
Also, DCHelp has moved to a new address, on a new server. You can now visit DCHelp by visiting http://dchelp.net/ The old site will be removed from the server today, and a script will be put in place to automatically re-direct you to our new address.
In addition, we have obtained an additional hosting plan, and have added mirrored copies of all of our image downloads. Very soon, the links for all of our image downloads will be changed, in order to make use of our new mirror.
Finally, we have also started a project at SourceForge, in order to host all of our Open-Source image downloads. If you ever have trouble downloading our images from either of our in-house locations, you can now pop over to http://sourceforge.net/projects/dcevolution and see if the file you are trying to download is available there.
If you have our sites bookmarked, please go ahead and update those bookmarks with the new addresses.
More exciting news from the DCEvo Network will be coming very soon.

I've just compiled a daily build for ScummVM for Dreamcast. Note that this doesn't have MAD support, so you won't be able to use compressed music.
It does use the plugin system though, which is different from any other daily build I've released.
http://dreamon.cyberdogcastle.com/scummvmdc.zip
I didn't bother removing the autosave feature in this release either.

The snes emulator for SEGA Saturn has been optimized a lot in the last weeks. It now uses a homebrew Saturn library (a replacement for the SGL), which takes less cpu time and less RAM space because both are crucial for the snes emu on SEGA Saturn. The fast assembler cpu core from DreamSNES has been ported to Saturn. It's compatibility is not yet as good as with the C core, but the speedup is very good. A lot of unused code could be removed, improving locality and making more high work RAM available. The memory usage has been optimized too, such that ROMs of up to 3.5 MB size can be loaded. Some compile flags did a good job, too. Rendering is now set to palette mode and the Saturn system clock has been increased by 10 percent.
All in all this results in speed being between 2 and 3 times as fast as before. Homebrew SNES Demos are quite fast and sort of playable, with frameskip. The asm core is compatible with more commercial ROMs than I thought and though these are slower in general, some games (like Desert Strike, Contra 3 and others) show the potential to become playable if the GFX rendering could be speed up.
Here are some screenshots (noncommercial ROMs).

Got-Next.com has interviewed Hiroyuki Maruyama the president of G.rev (Border Down, Under Defeat). Its and interesting interview, below I have quoted the questions/answers about the Dreamcast
<blockquote>
GN: How would you feel about making a console-exclusive title without any arcade release?
HM: It's not out of the question at some point, but for the time being, we don't intend to. If Under Defeat was a console original, and it weren't billed as "the last game for the Dreamcast", it's probably safe to say that in Japan, few people would've noticed it, and it would've quietly disappeared.
GN: Some were surprised to see Under Defeat released for the Sega Dreamcast. Are you happy with the game's sales performance on DC, and do you think it will be made available for other systems in the future?
HM: We weren't planning on it selling much to begin with, so it did surpass our expectations. In the future (at least a year down the road), I can't rule out a port to another console, but at the moment there are no plans to do so. Besides, if we had that kind of time we'd rather just make a new game.
GN: Do you think there's a possibility of future releases for the Dreamcast from G.rev?
HM: Again, it's not out of the question, but it's not our decision alone to make, so it would be very difficult.
Under Defeat was also billed as the "final" Dreamcast release. If we look like we bailed out, then came back just because it sold well, I think that would actually be an insult to Dreamcast players.
</blockquote>
Does this mean that Under Defeat could be the dreamcast's last official game? I hope not...

ScummVM support for The Legend of Kyrandia is now complete!
This means that they now need you, their users, to give them a helping hand. In order to root out any remaining bugs, extensive testing is sorely needed. So, please dig up your (legal!) copies of Kyrandia 1, download a SVN snapshot of ScummVM and the required Kyra data file from the Downloads page, and post any bugs you find to their Bug tracker . Any other issues can be discussed in their forum.
Currently both CD and floppy editions are supported in their own language. English, French, German and Spanish versions are fully supported, but any other PC (and hopefully Mac) version should work as well (albeit with some text in English, and some interface graphics missing). If you have an unsupported version, they'd love to hear from you! Note that Amiga versions are unfortunately not supported at all at this time.
Here's today's DC build, so DC users can test too:
http://dreamon.cyberdogcastle.com/scummvmdc.zip
The data file can be downloaded from:

One of the main pioneers of the Sega Saturn Scene, Rockin-B has updated his site with this news:
You see I've added a google search option and a PayPal button on the top of each page. I think it's useful to be able to search for a specific thing in the hundreds of pages of this website.
The PayPal button has been added because I'd like to get more attention to this. People get everything for free on the web, but what I'm doing for SEGA Saturn and SEGA VMU is not for free for me, if you understand what I mean. Donations are an importand thing to keep motivation, especially when working for dead videogame systems, which only a few people remember and even fewer care about the homebrew stuff. All in all, donations help answering the question "What am I doing this for?", which comes to mind from time to time in todays world.
The links to the source code of WinterSports Eins and Atlas have been updated.

scenedicate #2!
There have been a few submissions already, but we'd really like to pack this thing with great content so that there will be lots to offer. Here are a few ideas for articles in scenedicate.
* Interviews with key Sceners
* Profiling specific projects
* Game reviews and strategies (commercial or freeware)
* Personal Stories (dc or not)
* Opinions on the scene
* Propaganda
* Anything Dreamcast or not!
If you have a cool story about dreamcast, saturn, your dog, or a political theses on pre-mature cat hibernation.... hey submit that too! We want to keep Scenedicate interesting so some variety would be great. Our last issue featured articles about the gp32 demoscene, scummvm for dc, an essay on capitalism, and well... you get the idea.
