Now for those not familiar the Iphone has already seen a mass of homebrew released for it including Nes Emulators, Frotz, Doom and MAME is being worked on.
With the worldwide popularity of the iPod and this much easier way to get homebrew on it coupled with the Touch Screen we could see a major homebrew scene in the making. Interesting times ahead.
Apple News will have all the latest news as it happens.
The first console that exploded homebrew to the masses and created many thousands of fans all around the world, the Dreamcast was way ahead of its time with innovations that would fit nicely into todays gaming world. The fishing Controller was one such as was the Visual Memory Unit which doubled as a Memory card and even a mini games console. Sadly we lost out because of a lack of Sega Money, Piracy and the upcoming PS2. But thanks to Sites like us the Homebrew Scene lives on still now
Here is the official release of my Dreamcast setup for Code::Blocks. Thanks to starlight for pointing out the SDL issues in my WIP release (they're now working).
About R1:
- upgraded to Code::Blocks svn (1.0 RC2 support dropped)
- no Makefiles needed
- includes Dreamcast sh-elf compiler (GCC 3.4.6)
- building romdisks within the IDE
- project files for most of KOS' Dreamcast examples
- configuration program automatically sets Dreamcast compiler for you
- easy uninstallation
Downloads: CodeBlocks_DCDev_R1.exe (fixed 9/11/07) cbdc_dep.zip (this is for DC Dev ISO R2 and newer - sets the Dreamcast compiler up in Code::Blocks to use the Dev ISO's path rather than using the compiler in the "independent" installer) manconf.zip (includes HTML manual-setup instructions, and the Dreamcast script used for the Dreamcast wizard)
Credits:
JMD for bin2odc.exe (used for romdisks)
pnpbios for the original Code::Blocks for DC thread
EDIT: Path fixed in independent setup under additional tabs. Caused cygwin1.dll error.
It must be a year since i found out about a new project from CraigIX (Owner of the former GBAX.com Shop - Best one in Europe for DS etc) and now owner of GP2X UK.
Now because sites like Engadget have made the news public and got it wrong a tad too then i thought it was about time i posted what i know about the handheld that has been told to me will be more powerful than the PSP.
The handheld is not being made by Gamepark so thats one rumour dead. Craigix and some others are behind it and most likely it will be made in China (not 100% confirmed). The Console will be Linux Based again (like the GP2X). It will have a decent 2D and 3D Graphics Chip. I gather it will have a very nice 128MB of Ram, it will use SD Cards. It will have a touchscreen. TV Out will also be an option. The screen is rumoured to be 800x400 resolution, i understand that Sony/Sharp have the deets on the 480 screen. Wifi is also on the cards.
The console at this time doesnt have a Public name but sometime in October we will know for sure. It promises to be an exceptional console for homebrew and other items not 100% confirmed are some kind of keyboard too.
The price im told will be around the £150.
Like everything things change but it sounds a mouthwatering console, taking the ideas for the GP2X and features from the PSP/DS and making what could be a Dream Homebrew Handheld that doubles as a Console too.
The official OnlineConsoles.com Maximum Pool server is now online and available for public use. The server exists on a dedicated static IP address. This means the IP address stays the same, and would only need to be altered if we changed to a different server host. So far the machine looks to be running great and we should be sticking with this host. I have updated the Maximum Pool save file available for download. You will need this to play online. This save contains only the server address for the OC Maximum Pool server. The primary OC save will remain as is since this is a Dreamcast only website and we promote playing online with Dreamcast hardware rather than the PC. It is a Dreamcast Only Maximum Pool room.
via elation comes news of more progress on the Dreamcast emulator for windows:
I have ended some (certain) over attendance (service activity) work week ago shader Pixel,
so, I will be praised results Such solution has advantages more than it seemed . Firstly, acts from the point of view of
processor " free " ( ) attendance (service activity) texture paletowych. For second (other)
better utilization of graphic card (kart) I do not know - if (or) it problem of optimization
sterownika if (or) equipment, but it acts + faster VS PS than flows let's say nieprogramowalne.
Greatest control for it over manner of generating image ( e.g. capability to blocking of channel
alpha of texture, as it is able to make ) PVR2. They are and defects it is necessary to make
filtering texture - paletowych, that costs some tens (any tens) instructions PS. It requires for
it 2.0 upwards PS - but they let's say sincerely it 1.4 only 8500 PS Radeon, support is rebuked
for already SM1. But, can not have some (certain) old invention notebookowe SM2 rally will
move on - so 1.4 Makaron PS, but without w/w filter.
On margin so sometime numerators for that - explain be as (serve) FPS and RPS. I will add to longish conclusions again not intervening only, that there is normal situation in (to) many games = RPS FPS/2. Say from pictures heavily when really, spaghetti so " " przycina, but it is felt playing. At least majority has in the course of battle particularly " " ( ) = mordobić RPS FPS and great that give effect of sailing (swimming) in tar odchyłki )
It may be something most of us would've never expected to see on eBay, some could even compare it to the SNES CD-ROM attachment unit, the unreleased Sega Dreamcast prototype Zip Drive!
Made by Imega Corp, the makers of the Zip Disc format, this Zip drive was made to increase the Dreamcast's storage capacity but mainly for emails, web pages, and other internet based files.
The 100 Mega-Byte storage disk drive is essentially the same as the ones made for PCs with slight modifications made to make it compatible with the DC. "We chose the Zip drive for its durability and low cost. For gaming purposes, durability is essential," said a Sega spokesperson.
The drive was conceived after there was a strong demand for more storage space than Sega's servers were offering to save email and web pages onto. The drive could also save game-updata data so all those extra quake maps could be played at home.
The drive was made to fit under the DC and would connect to the expansion port with the modem, then being plugged into the Zip drive. This was to help promote the DC from a console to a home entertainment/information system with the release of other accessories (which were also never released).
This Zip drive was not going to be compatible with the PC Zip drives, but it was suggested that software for the PC would eventually be released to make it compatible with the DC Zip drive.
The Zip dive was to have a retail price of $199 USD and to be released sometime in the third quarter of 2000.
Follow the above link to download Makaron WIP version. It's just a preview of sorts, whether you'll be able to use it to run games is not really my problem. It's here just to show how far this project has advanced, nothing more. There's a ReadMe inside that package and that's it - I'll provide no help for it, you're on your own.
Use the "MT" executable on multiple-core systems for better speed.
dknute has posted a new test version of Makaron the DC Emu for Windows:
Bug in MakaronPAD 0.T.7.2 confirmed - you can't assign A, B & START buttons.
I already fixed that and here is the update. Unpack and replace, that's all.
Remember, you can enable basic shadow handling in F12 menu - it just a hack but works with some games (Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter, ...)
And one more thing (apparently not all of you had a real Dreamcast): I've included memory card files preloaded with some saves and A1 is almost full. You can either:
* delete those files, MakaronVMU will create new ones (you need to format those in BIOS, just as with any new memory card on real hardware)
* format the existing cards in BIOS to clear them out, or simply delete few saves from them
* unpack empty and pre-formatted card images I've included in the 7z file named "Clean VMUs for dummies.7z" :]

With the success of DCEmu Reviews a site that has its content showing up on our PSP, DS, Wii, PS3 and Xbox360 and the main DCEmu Portal site. I Wanted to create a new Guide/Tutorials site where new guides and tutorials will show up on any of our network sites.
Just like our news where any coders can upload their releases and post releases and WIP News this will be extended to our Guides and Tutorials Site.
We will be accepting Guides and Tutorials for any Console Scene We Cover and the beauty of it is because the creators will be you the DCEmu Members which means that if you please you can update as you want. What this will mean that if all goes well then this new site could be a great help base for the whole Homebrew scene.
So if you have any guides and tutorials for PS3, Wii, Xbox360, PSP, Nintendo DS, GP2X, GBA, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, Gizmondo, Iphone, iPod, Tapwave Zodiac, GP32, Dreamcast, Sega Saturn and others, then we want them
dknute has posted news about Makaron the DC Emu for Windows:
Today a little something for all you shooter fans
Exelica works but the first thing you notice about it is that secondary accumulation buffer isnt supported. Same goes for Looney Toons Space Race...
Now, this game I'm not really familiar with (I'm not a big fan of all those sms, logos and other crap) but the game seems to have a lot of fans so it wont hurt to support it
Under Defeat clearly suggests that SH4 core still has a big bug in it (you can also notice it in other games but this time I got a nice error message)
PS. In my previously released test build I found a few dumb errors which may seriously effect the graphics in some of the games. Those of you who happen to have GeForce FX 5xxx are in an even worse situation - the emulator wont boot
For any of you Old Schoolers out there: Cryptic Allusion (Dan and Roddy, at least) will be recording episode 004 of the CryptoCast at the NWCGE this coming weekend in Portland, OR!
