...and it features an 8 pages Dreamcast special![br][br]This is the biggest issue to date, coming in at 51 pages, and sees the start of a host of regular columns. [br][br]The pinnacle of the issue though has to be the Retrovision 5 coverage. We are proud to say that we are the first publication to get this in print, a feat we will be mimicking in future issues. [br][br]Apart from the fresh and innovative articles, also included in issue 3 is the chance to win a copy of the great Blitz basic programming language that usually retails for £29.99. [br][br]Once again, it is a FREE download, however we are offering printed copies for those who want them. Use the Contact Us page to drop us a line if you require us to offer this service to you.[br][br]Get it from here:[br][br]http://www.retrorevival.co.uk/[br][br]Also check this topic where Simon of RetroRevival asked a while ago about the history of the independent Dreamcast scene and recieved some feedback from our board's regulars & staff. Sorry for the problems of the past two days. All of them are fixed and I wanted to make sure people knew it by doing a mini-release. Default value for jump height if not set for all characters is 4, same as in old Beats Of Rage [br][br]Dreamcast version is now up to date with DOS version, New Dreamcast version as usual is tested and working and should have new animation Respawn and Go SFX on arrow [br](if datasoundsgo.wav is included in mod) see bottom of readme for examples. [br][br]The Dreamcast versions are edited, scrambled, and ready for selfbooting by me, and were tested to work by CybersoulX. Animnew Animation is now changed to Respawn in both versions, see bottom of Readme for examples. Tyne has updated his Quake brawling mod for Christmas. Here's what's new:[br][br]*Horrors have been weakened as they were pretty lethal before, I also removed their melee attack so now they're simply fireball throwers[br]*Skeleton jumping AI has been improved[br]*Monsters can now jump in Darkplaces properly, however in Winquake they're not as accurate in their jumps; however it isn't a big deal[br]*Vigil is now able to grab onto his enemies and beat them upclose Beats/Streets of Rage style, however you cannot grab enemies if they're up against a wall, another monster is in the way, or near a ledge (quake limitations). Oh, you cannot grab dogs either. Overall it works better then I expected too (and it took enough QuakeC wizardry to make it work properly)[br]*Updated the move list on Page 1 for information on grabbing[br]*New sound effects[br]*Updated skeleton model and his bounding box has changed, during testing trying to grab a skeleton rarely worked so I fixed it[br]*A bug fix with the Baron monster; they'll only use their smash attack if on the ground, before if they did it in the air they'd be teleported to the ground instantly [br][br]You can download it in this topic on DCEmulation's forums.

Max from Dreamcast-Scene has posted intrested news about the Scud Race, that was originally announced on DC, but never released:[br][br]Got-Next.com interviewed Toshiro Nagoshi from Sega, who was involved in Virtua Racing, Daytona USA, Scud Race and the Monkey Ball series. [br]In this interview, Mister Nagoshi confirmed that a tech demo of Scud Race? for the Dreamcast is flowting on the internet. There were plans for a port but it was stopped due unknowed reasons. [br][br]Interview: http://www.got-next.com/features_read.php?id=77 [br][br]I found some more info&screenshots:[br][br]Many of you remember that a short demo of Sega's Model 3 racing game,[br]Scud Racer aka Super GT, was made for the Katana (Dreamcast)[br]development kits in late 1997 or early 1998.[br][br]The Scud Race / Super GT demo was produced on *something* LESS than[br]final Dreamcast hardware. This development-kit-only demo is running on[br]PowerVR ARC-1, the prototype and arcade version of PowerVR2, which is[br]weaker, slower, and has less features than the PowerVR2DC, aka PowerVR[br]CLX2, used in Dreamcast.[br][br][br]so here it is:[br][br][br]http://jollyrogerdev.ath.cx/Set2_1/I...t2_Test2_t.jpghttp://jollyrogerdev.ath.cx/Set2_1/I...t2_Test3_t.jpg [br]http://jollyrogerdev.ath.cx/Set2_1/I...t2_Test4_t.jpg [br]http://jollyrogerdev.ath.cx/Set2_1/I...t2_Test5_t.jpg [br]http://jollyrogerdev.ath.cx/Set2_1/I...t2_Test6_t.jpg [br]http://jollyrogerdev.ath.cx/Set2_1/I...t2_Test7_t.jpg [br][br]source: http://jollyrogerdev.ath.cx/Set2_1/Set2_1.html [br][br][br]So is the Katana/Dreamcast demo version of Scud Race / Super GT on par[br]with the Model 3 arcade version? no, not really, because it is so[br]incomplete. but it was running at 60fps, the same framerate as the[br]arcade, and the same resolution too. keep in mind, the[br]Katana/Dreamcast development kit it's running off of had something[br]like 50% of the power/speed of the final Dreamcast, with less hardware[br]graphics features too.[br][br]the most impressive thing is, the demo was put together in a matter of[br]weeks, iirc.[br][br]can you imagine if Sega had spent all of 1998 and a good part of 1999[br]porting the entire arcade game to the final Dreamcast hardware? Scud[br]Race / Super GT could have been made very close to the arcade, much[br]closer than the rush job that was Sega Rally 2. I'd say a Dreamcast[br]version of Scud Race / Super GT could have been at least as close to[br]the Model 3 version as Virtua On 2 (VOOT) on Dreamcast (like 90%) if[br]not closer. Virtua On 2 arcade was a Model 3 Step 2 game, whereas Scud[br]Race / Super GT arcade was on one of the older Model 3 boards.[br][br]what a shame Sega didn't complete and release Scud Racer / Super GT[br]for Dreamcast :/[br][br]Who know`s, maybe we soon see this unique demo, just like Half-Life or Propeller Arena.

Axlen is undergoing the final stages for his USB-to-serial module coder's cable. For those who don't know, this cable takes advantage of the high speed of the Dreamcast's serial port and the high speed of USB ports to utilize people to upload software with DC-load IP a lot faster than your standard serial coder's cable. The speeds are comparable to the Broadband adapter, but the USB-to-serial cable will be alot cheaper. Axlen mentioned that after weighing the costs of parts, labor, etc., he has estimated the price to be around $49.00 US. He's looking for your comments on how he should accept preorders, and any general questions or concerns about the cable in general, in this topic on the Consolevision message boards.

The Ascension of Vigil, Tyne's Quake brawling mod, has been updated again. Here's what's new:[br][br]- Fixed up menu sprites so they're dimensions of 2, this means menu.bsp now loads and works on Dreamcast.[br]- A bunch of new sound effects for monsters, I got tired of hearing regular quake sounds; almost all quake sound effects are replaced.[br]- Tweaked the Wall Jump, it allows Vigil to jump higher and farther & The Wall Jump Kick has been tweaked so it's easier to aim and always moves forward (older one would eventually slow down..)[br]- Completely recoded the physics for smacking enemies around[br]- Completely recoded the way air combos work, it's now smoother and works overall better (This change and the one above haven't affected gameplay that much..)[br]- Found a bug that a person can take advantage of to have infinite lives. When you're dead and Vigil hasn't landed on the ground the user can backflip out of it in mid-air and remain in an undead state similar to the corpse bug, fixed![br]- Rewrote some of the fireball spells code, it's perfect now.[br]- Improved Monster AI, they can also all run now![br]- Another AI improvement now gives monsters magic attacks as demonstrated by the Hell Knight. He's now a completely done monster![br]- The Ascension of Vigil now has a final score displayed when you finally hit game over[br]- More attractive game over text[br][br]Download Here

From their site:[br]Today, Dreamcast-Scene went online again, after there were no action happening on the main side of it for months (see our history what happend in the meanwhile). We also present you a brandnew website with state of the art XHTML, a powerful PmWiki and phpBB system in the background and the possibity for everyone to submit new content or edit it in the news, database, scene and lifestyle pages![br][br]But our motto "power to the people" also means a lot of responsibility for the active sceners who want to contribute articles on Dreamcast-Scene: Keep an eye on the text formatting rules, correcting grammar and misspellings of the non-native English spreakers, act for the collective good and don't fake, spam, delete or adulterate articles or news.[br][br]Remember: Dreamcast-Scene is a non-profite project and many people sacrifices time and money for it to make it as good as possible.[br][br]And now, let the scene rise again![br][br]Dreamcast-Scene.com[br]

Since April the 11th of this year when the site officially opened we are nearing the Million visitors (a few hundred away), to say the Dreamcast isnt a console supported commercially (with the odd exception) and also the fact that the Dreamcast scene already had 5 mainstream emulation/homebrew sites and any new site would face a massive uphill battle to get visitors to visit a new site, we have done well.[br][br]Originally started as a solo project of mine because of my frustration of the stagnancy of the Dreamcast scene and the lazyness of siteops to update their pages, i quickly found a site design off my friend James (webmaster of Xbox Rules.com), the design was from a site that never really got going so it was decided to use it for DCEmu UK.[br][br]Next part of my journey was to find the best host for this site, i contacted my friends Keith ( Emufanatics) and Passive (Emuhelp) and with thier help got in contact with Martin64 the admin of the Emulation64 Network, luckily for me he said yes to taking on a site that would need lots of space and bandwidth too.[br][br]Onto choosing a name for the site was next and there was so many that to choose from that i decided to keep the name short and sweet so the name DCEmu UK was born, although we would gladly love the Dreamcast.com .net domains .[br][br]So in March i started the task of finding every emulator for download and so began the massive task of finding every emulator released for the Dreamcast, in that month i told a couple of close friends about the project and Soully and LyonHrt came aboard to help me with this site and also to help with the as yet unseen v2 of our site.[br][br]Which leads me nicely to the day we opened and since then its been a great ride with high moments being the amazing 13,000 visitors in one day, the 5 slashdots, the amazing interviews, the hosting of Chui and forums, the joining together of the International Dreamcast scenes.[br][br]My thanks to all these people so far in helping this site, LyonHrt, Soully, Darksaviour69, Wacko, Captain Skyhawk, Martin 64, Keith, Passive, DCDayDreamer, Curt Grymala, Dr Zoidberg, Hawq, Metafox, Chui, Pablo, Talfi, Ron, Propellor, Christuserloeser, ace and many more.[br][br]Lets get to that 2nd Million asap

I do believe I've beaten Wraggster to some news, he really must be getting old [br][br]A new independent shooter is making its way to the Dreamcast thanks to development team Project Firestorm, called Karugamo:xxx...[br][br]The game appears to use graphics from a range of existing commercial shooters which is slightly worrying, but still it looks fantastic.[br][br]Check out some great looking screens as well as a video Here.

GPF (Visual Troy Advance) has posted some interesting news & a WIP screenshot in this topic on the DCEmu UK message board about his new project:[br][br]A Nintendo 64 emulator for Dreamcast![br][br]Here's what he wrote:[br][br]This is a port of Nincest to the Dreamcast. Currently only runs fire and stars demos very very slowly. [br] [br]On Windows I have it displaying the N64 logo for the start up of WaveRunner, but the rom is to big for the Dreamcast. [br] [br]The colors are way off right now, and I am using SDL to render the screen. [br] [br]Troy

Scherzo has posted a report about the current NesterDC SE status. Here's what he wrote:[br][br]I have some good news. I managed to fix the compatibility for several games last night and this morning (I stayed up until 4:30a). [br][br]There were a couple of bugs in the CPU core that were a side-effect of Takayama Fumihiko's excellent optimization. Both bugs concerned ingeter overflow/underflow not being properly done on the stack pointer and some other intermediate data. The following games now work: [br][br]Rygar (U) [br]3-D Battles of World Runner, The (U) [br]Anticipation (U) [br]Arch Rivals (U) [br][br]Can you believe that the stack pointer overslows in Arch Rivals as part of normal operation? I find that strange but who cares about strange... I'm no 6502 coder. It works and that's all I care about [br][br]Maybe more games work now as a result of these fixes. I'm going through and testing other that I've found on this list: [br][br]http://dckb.dcevo.com/nesterdc_games.htm [br][br]I'll keep you all posted with the progress.

Ian Micheal posted some news and plans for the next release of NeoCD SDL at the IMRtech forum:[br][br]*New version [...] will feature the first starting of the database system. Shadows is fixed on this version and super sharp standard grafix and the filtered will be selectable. It will tell you on screen when it's saving as well. [br][br]*Game speeds will be faster across the ones in the database. This lets us use frameskip or underclocking on one game *EG* metal slug and the rest will be normal standard that means lots of games will be #zeroframeskip and will not need any help, the games that need to use frameskip or underclocking to gain speed will use it, I think thats a first on any emulator for dreamcast dont know about pc thou. So as you people have siad the ones's that were slow i can use frameskip on and the one's that are fast i dont have to this fixes the problem of over speeding on games which is why viewpoint use to be to fast and some games the cdda did not match up. [br][br]*So the next version will be worth geting but it's going to be 4 to 5 days of working testing the right settings for each game please post the slowest games in a list for me and how much you think they need to be sped up by some will have to be guessing on my part i dont own those games and yours guess that is on what speed it's running at. [br][br]Just to give the good news first now - the Bad news is the SFX code was crashing these games that dont load So even if it was fully fast and working some were crashing. I think there is a file system error in the cdrom code or the way it workings on kos not an error in the code pc version works fine. Some real cd's are not loading ive been told these games have a ring around them and are not the same as the other working cds dreamcast's cd drive might not be able to read these cd's throu kos it has trouble with some mix mode cd's thats why CDDA is not working on every disk is my guess. [br][br]We want all real cd's to work to, looks like not all of them do at this point. I can only go on what im told me.[br]

Its not often i'd post news like this, but the rumour mills are running, with the "Explosive announcemnt" from Sega at this years E3......[br][br]Sega has invited all press visiting E3 to attend a special event as soon as the show doors open, where an "explosive announcement" will be made. Understandably, the press has jumped all over the opportunity, and now you can't even RSVP to get there.[br][br]The most obvious conclusion to what will be made public is Sega's return to the hardware market. The Dreamcast, Sega's last foray into the console wars, was unquestionably a success in terms of the quality of its games. However, the Dreamcast was by no means a success in sales, which led the company into becoming a third party developer. Without a doubt, there are many who would love to see Sega develop a new console. But with the market becoming as oversaturated as it is, it may not be the best time for Sega to trek back into hardware.[br][br]There is the possibility that the announcement will have nothing to do with an impending return to hardware. Even though, Sega has undoubtedly created quite the buzz leading into E3. But if it has nothing to do with hardware, then what could it be?[br][br]Source: RPGGamer.[br][br]Give your thoughts on this via our forums

After a long discussion with burnerO, DCStuff has learned that he is beginning work on the next Selfboot Inducer. The staff at DCStuff is very excited to announce this news.[br]In addition, burnerO has developed a new template for DreamInducer themes, so that artists no longer need to deal with coding XML files.[br]To help promote the new template, and the development of the next Selfboot Inducer, burnerO, in conjunction with DCStuff, is holding a contest to find the next "default" theme for Selfboot Inducer. More information can be found in the official topic in the News Board of the DCStuff forums.

News shamelessly stolen from DChomebrew [br][br]The NTSC-UK.com Dreamcast tribute I mentioned a couple of weeks ago is still going strong, the latest article posted is one based on the DC homebrew scene & was written by Tom Salter & John Szczepaniak. The article mentions emulators like DreamSNES & the MAME ports and lots of different homebrew games like Cool Herders, Trampalien Gunmen & Maquipai amongst other things, and also features an interview with Dr Zoidberg (webmaster in charge of DCEmulation)[br]There has also been new reviews of games like Capcom vs SNK Millenium Fight 2000, Fire Pro Wrestling D (JPN), Space Channel 5 Part 2 & Samba De Amigo Ver.2000, you can check those out by visiting NTSC-UK.com's Dreamcast section.

Deeroc has updated his site yet again, with some really nice news:[br][br]"So the DC-RPG I’m working on has a working title now, Fantasy Tales. More then likely I’ll put up a poll closer to the release date to see what the gamers want this game to be called, but for now it’s Fantasy Tales.[br][br]I was monkeying around in Photoshop and was having fun tinkering with a menu, so I decided to rip through and develop a main menu system, which is working okay for the time being. I’m sure I’ll go through and optimize and edit it some more later as its a little bloated, but get the job done just fine. I’m “borrowing” a screenshot from some game found on the internet, but it will be replaced before the release is made."[br][br]Plus some nice screenshots of the wip.[br][br]For the complete newspost and the shots go to:[br]http://www.ryanwarner.org/~deeroc/

Today is Easter Sunday and for us more importantly its the Launch day of the newest Dreamcast Emulation and Homebrew Site in the scene.[br][br]This site hosted by the excellent Emulation64 is 2 months in the making from the original template that James Woodcock of Xbox Rules.com gave to me and also help from WaCko and the majority of help from LyonHrt to what is now infront of you.[br][br]We have every emulator released for the Dreamcast on the site and also the latest homebrew releases too and as we build the site up we will become the most up to date site featuring the best in features, downloads and so much more, with a friendly forum/community to enhance that.[br][br]There is lots more i could say but for now i declare this site open.
Some very very interesting news tonight that i noticed over at Emufanatics which they got from the (french)emu site Consollection any way heres the news in full from my mate Keith:[br][br] I just read over at Consollection that Runik, best known for Saturnin is now also working on a Dreamcast Emulator. There is a few SDK demos posted and some info. Here is what Ben-J had to post.[br][br]Announced yesterday by Runik, the mystery emulator is a Sega Dreamcast emulator [br][br]The development is advancing rather well, and textures are now showing![br]For proof, here three new screenshots, taken from the official SDK[br][br]More information soon. [br][br]*update[br]Ben-J just informed me that I misunderstood the post and it is not Runik that is the author, just that he was the one to figure out the mystery of what the screens were. My apologies if this caused any confusion. [br] [br][br]Excellent News, check out our new page for this emulator with screenshots on here --> http://www.dcemu.co.uk/runik.shtml
Hi just a quick intro from me, as one of the new members of the dcemu.co.uk team, i'm here to bring cool new features to the site, most of you know me from the dc scene, and design and maintainer of www.dcevolution.com.[br]Right thats that over...[br][br]The first new feature of dcemu is an RSS newsfeed, which allows you to view the headlines from Dcemu with an rss viewer such as desktop sidebar, and also allows you to have the headlines on a website or blog.[br][br]So you won't need to miss any new dreamcast emu ever again [br][br]The rss feed is http://www.dcemu.co.uk/news/rss.xml
