The Dreamcast Independant Rating Board is a new project that aims to act as a surrogate rating board to the ESRB for all independant Dreamcast projects. The goal of this project is two-fold:[br][br]1) provide a rating system for independant projects that acts the same as the commercial game rating system - it allows people to know what they are getting before they get it in regards to violence, sex, and drugs. This way a game isn't accidently downloaded for a small child when it contains innappropriate material.[br][br]2) to provide a rating graphic for creators of cover images for independant Dreamcast games, so they don't use the copyrighted ESRB rating system graphics, and so the ratings actually mean something.[br][br]If you want to submit your game for content grading by the DIRB, please use the form on The DIRB Site.

Max the webmaster of Dreamcast-Scene has posted some news about the future of his Site [br][br] Thanks a lot to the ppl who still care about DCS and me, and asked be about I'm doing lately. [br][br]There are quite a couple of things why it became this silent about DCS: [br][br]* My ADSL connection died and I have to use wireless LAN, this means I can't use Linux for emails, planing and those stuff anymore. All those important mails are now messed up cause I have to chage from Linux to Windows to look for everyone's email addresses and the messages itself. [br]* Got a new job in another city, I even have to work on Saturdays. [br]* Wanted to move to this mysterious "another city", looked for apartments or houses, all I got in 3 months were five promises which all were broken only a few days before I wanted to move in. [br]* I'm too lazy. [br][br]But don't worry, right in this moment we're working on the re-design of DCS. Beside a new design it will feature the all-new Wiki-system [tm], which means that everyone can write artices for DCS. The goal is to became the #1 DC related information database in the www. Everyone can add anything senseful to DCS, write textes, upload photos and those stuff. [br][br]Its great to see some news about this site and when i find some time i will help out with news over there too.

News from GI.Biz [br][br] One of the biggest ever mergers in the videogames industry has been successfully completed, with Japanese giants Sega and Sammy finally coming together under the banner of Sega Sammy Holdings.[br][br]The new firm, which is being run by around 60 management staff taken from Sega and Sammy, is expected to report net sales of 442.5 billion Yen (3.24 billion Euro) for the current financial year, with the lion's share being generated from Sammy's pachinko gambling machine business.[br][br]Sega Sammy Holdings is headed up by Sammy CEO Hajime Satomi, who is chairman and CEO of the new firm, while Sammy president Kenkichi Yoshida (formerly a Sega game designer) will be a board director and Sega president Hisao Oguchi will be an executive vice president.[br][br]A huge array of development studios and sub-companies will come under the banner of the holding company, including all of Sega's internal studios such as Sonic Team and AM2, which were rolled back into the company in preparation for the merger, along with other studios such as Dimps (Sammy's Seven Samurai 20XX) and Red Entertainment (Sakura Wars). [br][br]"In order to become the world's top entertainment industry, Sega and Sammy will work together to provide entertainment towards people of all ages throughout the globe," according to Satomi. [br][br]Sega Sammy Holdings is expected to focus its efforts mostly on the profitable arcade business both in Japan and overseas, while continuing to push the home console game business into profitability. The company hopes to see profit growth of 40 per cent by 2007, with 75 per cent of revenues at that point being generated from the pachinko business.

ExtremeTech reports that Renesas Technology has taken many of the technologies used in the Sega Dreamcast game console and combined them into a single core.[br][br]Officials from Japan's Renesas, which assumed control over the development of the SH processor from ST Microelectronics on Sept. 28, announced the SH3707 embedded processor at the Fall Processor Forum here today. The SH3707 combines both an advanced SuperH core and a PowerVR graphics core, the components found in the original Dreamcast. [br][br]Specifically, the Dreamcast console contained a 200-MHz Hitachi SH4 with the capability to perform 360 million instructions per second (MIPS) and 1.4 million megaflops, or floating-point operations per second. The Dreamcast also contained an NEC PowerVR2 graphics chip.[br][br]The new SH3707 uses a faster 540 MIPS/2.1 gigaflops engine, with a 64-bit interface to memory. The core also contains a PowerVR MBX chip, a core that Imagination Technologies has licensed to Intel and Texas Instruments, among others. [br][br]According to Miyazaki, the target specification for the platform is to achieve up to 1024 x 768 resolution, 10 million to 13 million vertices or 5 million to 6 million triangles per second, with up to 20 percent translucency per scene – in other words, anticipating a game where some of the polygons would be enhanced with transparency effects. That would place the SH3707 at somewhat over twice the performance of the Dreamcast, which could handle up to 3 million triangles per second. The SH3707 also has the capability of processing MPEG-1, -2, and -4 video and eight-channel PCM/ADCPM audio.[br][br]The SH3707 will ship in the first quarter of 2005, Miyazaki said.

Its nice to see a truly great Dreamcast site get some recognition, DCEvolution are not a team of coders but they are the very best at what they do, they take programs like Self Boot Inducer and push it to its limits and with so many great projects under their belts and many new ones to come, its nice to see them get a bit of mainstream recognition from the likes of Slashdot [br][br]Good work gang

One of the reasons i opened this site was to have a great forum for Dreamcast Fans as a base but for all console emulation as well. [br][br]Recent events have brought me to question the use of Yabb in our forum we do seem to be having a few minor glitches and i dont want to lose any posts.[br][br]So this is a question to all those who use our forums and thats Dreamcast and fans of other consoles. Shall we keep using Yabb or swap over to a PHPBB forum or even a Invision Forum.[br][br]As long as i can have a few features i require then im happy, i look forward to your views.
