Sega has revised its full-year forecast after weaker than expected packaged game sales after nine months of the fiscal year.
In the nine months ended December 31, 2019, Sega's Entertainment Contents business earned ¥186.26 billion ($1.7 billion) in revenue, an increase of 12.1% over the prior year.
Entertainment Contents -- which includes arcade products and toys, as well as video games -- made an operating profit of ¥16.2 billion ($148 million), up 52.8% year-on-year.
In terms of games, Sega had a relatively busy third quarter, with Persona 5 Royal, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, and New Sakura Wars all launching in the three month period.
Those releases helped to push nine month unit sales to 19.33 million, up from 18.51 million over the same period in the prior year.

The Game Gear version of Compile’s classic dungeon crawler Sorcery Saga A (Madou Monogatari A) has been translated into English!
On the first day of her summer vacation from Magic Kindergarten, four-year-old magician-in-training Arle Nadja has decided to go visit her grandmother on the other side of the Fairy Forest. Since she’s such a big girl now, Arle is even allowed to go by herself! But on the way there, she comes across a strange man with wings and horns who wants to cut down the forest to build an amusement park. Determined to save her fairy friends’ precious forest, Arle sets out to put a stop to this heinous evildoing.
Sorcery Saga A: Vivacious Vacation (Madou Monogatari A: Doki Doki Vacation) is a prequel to the original Sorcery Saga trilogy, which is probably best known as the origin of the Puyo Puyo franchise. It was initially released for the PC-98 home computer in a three-game bundle with sister games Madou Monogatari R and S. Later, it was ported as a standalone title to the Sega Game Gear, which is the version this translation targets. As is typical for the series, this port bears only vague similarities to the original version; the story and dungeons are almost entirely new.
This patch was the work of filler (translation), Supper (hacking), TheMajinZenki (additional translation), cccmar (testing), and Oddoai-sama (testing). Special thanks goes to Kingofcrusher, who did the original hacking for the first Sorcery Saga game’s translation.
In addition to the main release, minor updates have also been made to the translation patches for Sorcery Saga II and III to fix bugs and keep messages shared among the games consistent.
With this patch, English translations now exist for all the Sorcery Saga games on the Game Gear. The authors still have more releases planned, though, so look forward to more Sorcery Saga!

Reicast Git (2020/01/30) is compiled. reicast is a multi-platform Dreamcast emulator. The project is currently in Alpha, usability, performance and stability issues are to be expected. Cortex-A9 dualcore, 1ghz+ is the minimum hardware for decent speeds.

Sega Europe is abandoning plastic packaging for its physical games, after it today announced the introduction of recycled cardboard cases for all its PC products.
The news comes just months after Sega subsidiary Sports Interactive revealed it would be using specially designed recyclable cardboard cases for Football Manager 2020.
Studio director Miles Jacobson said at the time that he hoped the wider industry would soon follow suit.
Now, three months later, Sega Europe has expanded upon the work done by Sports Interactive to deliver recyclable packaging across its entire PC portfolio, starting with Total War: Rome II - Enemy at the Games Edition, which is set to release next week.
Much like the packaging used by Sports Interactive for Football Manager 2020, the new cases are more expensive to produce, but are made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials.
This increase is partially offset by savings in shipping costs, thanks to the reduced weight overall. Sega Europe quoted Jacobson's initial statement on the additional cost, saying it's "a price worth paying to help secure the planet's future."
"This initiative underlines Sega Europe's commitment to reducing its plastic waste and its ongoing efforts to implement environmentally friendly business practices," said Sega Europe president and COO Gary Dale.
It was estimated that the decision to go green with Football Manager 2020 would prevent up to 20 tonnes of plastic waste. Sega were unable to provide figures on how much waste this portfolio-wide move could prevent, but suggested it would be exponential.

SSF PreviewVer R14 is released. SSF is a Sega Saturn emulator for Windows systems using DirectX 9.0b. The current version claims near-complete implementation of the Sega Saturn hardware (not counting emulation bugs), and can emulate the Saturn based Sega Titan Video arcade hardware too. As with most emulators, CDs or disc images are not included and have to be owned separately. The BIOS is also not included; as of 0.07 Beta R3, games run without the BIOS however. The usage of BIOS files is optional but recommended for better compatibility, and needed for tasks such as management of the contents of the internal memory of the Sega Saturn, or setting the system clock.

Sega recently released a new page on their website “Sonic Channel“. The page is entirely in Japanese, but translated, it mentions that “[We] launched a project entitled “SONIC2020” to deliver a variety of new information and plans for Sonic on the 20th of every month during 2020, entitled “SONIC2020″!”. Broken down, Sega is telling us that on the 20th of each month, they will be giving us new information on Sonic. Additionally, they mention that “The Sonic Channel is recruiting fan art for Sonic and releasing wallpapers and calendars with original designs.” As they often do, Sega is involving their fans to help create this event. As a final quote, they mention “A variety of related events are scheduled for 2020, so watch out for “Sonic the Hedgehog,” which is set to gain momentum ahead of its 30th anniversary in 2021.”

Rock n’ Roll Racing for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive - updated romhack of a cult game after several years.
Finally, version 16 is completed and available for all.
It’s completes many aspects that was not finished in version 15.
Added many multiplayer modes for up to 6 players, similar to old ‘Tournament Edition’ romhack.
This version was priority targeted on quality, not quantity: there’s a lot changes which greatly improves graphics, gameplay, adds new features.
It was passed a lot of time, to find and solve many things, many people played/tested and gives help and opinions and discuss on new changes.

Just before the year ended the team “SNAGS” (Simply Not A Game Studio) released their total conversion hack “Voyage - A Sorceress’ Vacation” that is based on the all time classic “Alex Kidd in Miracle World”. Development started early in 2016 already as a demo with the name “Ma Kai Quest” and matured over the last years into a full game with 17 levels in different styles, accompanied by fitting music tunes with punching new sound effects and a lot of new gameplay additions and features as well as some simple parallax tricks.
The game starts with the heroine - a sorceress working for the ministry of magic - stranded on an unknown island because of a broken cruise ship. Now you are helping her to get to the other side of the island to catch the ride to the correct destination in time before her vacation ends. You will get to know the hazards of the island as well as people living there and other tourists that also want to leave the island. Due to the nature of this being a hack, the gameplay is not unlike to that of Alex Kidd but without some of the rather unpopular mechanics like the Janken game. Instead there are some new ones and a lot of smaller and larger secrets to explore.
Will you manage to leave the other side of the island in time and will it be even enough to continue the vacation as planned? Find out by grabbing the ROM patch!
