The Lavalit guys have released a new version of their Beatem Up for the Dreamcast, PSP, Wiz, Wii, GP2x and Dingoo:

amassed popularity very quickly. Senile Team soon released an edit pack allowing
anyone interested to create a mod for the BOR engine.
In 2005, Kirby2000 asked Senile Team to open the source code to BOR. They
agreed, and OpenBOR was born. Development on the engine was continued by the

[Ben Leperchey] is working on building a Sega Master System clone using the Papilio One FPGA board, and although his ultimate goal has yet to be reached, he’s bringing some great stuff to the table in the meantime.
One component that is necessary for any sort of game system clone is NTSC/PAL video output, naturally. Since no one had constructed a TV output “Wing” (The Papilio One’s version of a shield or breakout board), [Ben] went and did it on his own. Using only 14 resistors and a low-pass audio filter, he was able to get the video output he was looking for with relatively little trouble. His VHDL code running on the Papilio does all the hard work of creating the video signal, while the wing he designed mostly handles the connectivity.
This is one of the first few projects/components we’ve seen come out of the Papilio camp, and it looks like things are off to a good start. We can’t wait to see the Master System implementation once it has been wrapped up!

We've previously discussed a few projects by game system hacker Ben Heck, including his PS3 laptop and Xbox 360 laptop. Now, GameSetWatch points out two videos produced by Ben showing and explaining new projects. First, he designs and builds a disc-changer for an Xbox 360, and then he turns an old Sega CDX system into a portable console

News via http://retroactionmagazine.com/retro...h-anniversary/
Right about now, Retro Gamer issue 91 should be hitting the shelves of select stores across the UK and it’s another superb cover with a foil coating along with a Sonic map and timeline within the folds. This issue, the RG team has plenty of content to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, which coincidently was released on the Mega Drive on the 23rd of June 1991. Elsewhere, there are other articles to look forward to, including The Ultimate Guide to… Smash TV, three Making of… features (Bugaboo, North & South and The Untouchables), Spectrum Games That Time Forgot, From The Archives: Treasure, In the Chair With… Michel Ancel, Classic Games (Solomon’s Key & Total Eclipse), the usual regulars and more.
As usual, the issue is also available to purchase online, in physical and digital versions, at the Imagine eshop. Make sure to get the full lowdown of the issue, including accompanying commentary, from editor Darran Jones with his preview video clip as he flicks through the pages.

Yu Suzuki, the man behind Sega classics Outrun, Virtua Fighter and Shenmue will leave his current job at the company at the end of this year, he's said.
Speaking in an interview with Gamasutra, the legendary designer confirmed he'll remain on as an advisor to Sega.
Suzuki has been working at his own studio, YS Net, in conjunction with his current Sega role for the past three years.
"In 2008 I established YS NET, my current company," he said. "I'll be leaving my current job at Sega this September, and after that point I'll remain on as an advisor."
"So I've formally been with both companies from 2008 until September 2011. With the new company, I've been doing pretty much what I personally want to do myself," Suzuki added.
Suzuki retired from his role at Sega's AM Plus in 2009 to head up the company's Amusement R&D division, where he has been ever since.
Since then he's had an arcade title cancelled and released Shenmue Town, a role-playing game for mobile phones in Japan.
Earlier this month the designer revealed he's working on an unannounced Kinect fighting game, after taking on the role of executive game producer at Tokyo-based Premium Agency.
On the subject of fans' pleas for Shenmue 3, Sega West boss Mike Hayes told CVG this month: "We take the comments from the fans very seriously indeed," although he added that there are "no plans at the moment" for a new Shenmue game on consoles.

Just wanted to announce the release of a partial patch for Magic Knights Rayearth for the Sega Game Gear.
David Duerr and I worked on this for a couple of years but unfortunately disaster struck in July of 2010 when David’s hard drive died. He rose to the challenge and redid some of his work.
Currently some of the menus and battle text are inserted and I think all of the dialog stuff up until a boss that we had trouble with. He told me that he’ll keep working on this if we can get by the boss again.
We are releasing this partial patch for others to play as is. If anyone wants to play the game and progress to where the text insertion leaves off, please get in touch with myself (filler) or David (ded302) (http://www.dedtech.com/) with a save state.
In the mean time enjoy the partial patch!

News via http://www.emucr.com/2011/06/ssf-tes...on-110617.html
SSF Test Version (11/06/17) is released. SSF is a Sega Saturn emulator for Windows systems using DirectX 9.0b. The current version claims near-complete implementation of the Sega Saturn hardware (not counting emulation bugs), and can emulate the Saturn based Sega Titan Video arcade hardware too. As with most emulators, CDs or disc images are not included and have to be owned separately. The BIOS is also not included; as of 0.07 Beta R3, games run without the BIOS however. The usage of BIOS files is optional but recommended for better compatibility, and needed for tasks such as management of the contents of the internal memory of the Sega Saturn, or setting the system clock.
SSF Test Version (11/06/17) Changelog:
Updated TestVer. Established a time window VSynch Wait option. The change of speed to emulate VSynch Wait and can not be checked. The other minor fixes.

Sega Corp joins the ranks of video game companies to be hacked in recent time with one small twist, it seems LulzSec was not behind this one. They reached to Sega's official twitter account and offered to destroy the hackers that attacked them. From the article: 'In its offer to assist Sega, the Tweet from Lulz hinted that its leaders might count themselves among a small but highly loyal group of gamers who still play on the aging Dreamcast console. "Sega - contact us," Lulz said in its Tweet to the video game developer. "We want to help you destroy the hackers that attacked you. We love the Dreamcast, these people are going down."

SEGA has issued an email explaining that its SEGA Pass suite of websites, including its game forums and press resource sites, has been hacked, although no confidential information appears to have been stolen.
The email warns users to change any similar user/password combinations but reassures that no financial information was compromised and all passwords were stored encrypted.
"As you may be aware, the SEGA Pass system has been offline since yesterday, Thursday 16 June," reads the mail.
"Over the last 24 hours we have identified that unauthorised entry was gained to our SEGA Pass database.
"We immediately took the appropriate action to protect our consumers’ data and isolate the location of the breach. We have launched an investigation into the extent of the breach of our public systems.
"We have identified that a subset of SEGA Pass members emails addresses, dates of birth and encrypted passwords were obtained. To stress, none of the passwords obtained were stored in plain text.
"Please note that no personal payment information was stored by SEGA as we use external payment providers, meaning your payment details were not at risk from this intrusion."
No indication of whether the attack was perpetrated by Lulzsec, the group which admitted to hacking Bethesda, but it is assumed to be part of the ongoing series of attacks on gaming companies and websites.
