DX11 Plugin for DEmul v0.57 WIP is released. This is a DX11 Plugin with Internal Render Scaler for DEmul x86 v0.57. DEmul is a Sega Dreamcast(DC) emulator able to play commercial games.
DEmul DEmul v0.57 WIP changelog:
There is not so much visible changes for more than year of work, but much more internal changes, overall compatibility and graphics quality.
First of all, the new SH4 core now have full MMU support for interpreter/dynarec modes, which is slightly improved compatibility and allow to run most of the WinCE games fast enough to play.
Second significant change is that GPU subsystem now migrated to the DX11 interface (currently DX10-capable GPU is enough). From this version old DX9 GPU plugins (DXv3 and DXLegacy) are obsolete, although they are still supported and included in current package. Further development of the DX9 plugins is stopped for now.
And finally overall interface and usability changes. Emulator is now support 7zip romsets for the bioses and arcade systems, most of the protection/encryption formats for the arcade systems, many many new romsets added during last year and many previously unsupported games or game controllers now are supported.
The rest is the sound subsystem have some bug fixes, improving known problems. And yes, totally forgot about... Now we have our proprietary netplay plugin, too new to work fine, and totally untested, so you are welcome to try.
No, model 3 emulation still in the same state (except some overall graphics and compatibility improvements, made previously) all work currently suspended in favor to much more active supermodel emulator. Keep up good work, Bart!
Not much work was done on the Naomi 2 subsystem too, there is no significant changes, just a little bit of fixes. DX11 support for Naomi 2 still imperfect and have some known issues, don't bother with that.
Changelist:
- AICA: fixed sound
- CORE: added 7zip support for roms
- CORE: added mmu support for dynarec
- CORE: fixed maple timers
- CORE: fixed memcards in WinCE
- CORE: fixed save states
- CORE: new sh4/ppc cores, improvements, bugfixes
- CORE: removed redundant gpu/spu multi threading
- GDR: added support for filenames with spaces to GDI
- GDR: fixed gdrImage plugin
- GDR: fixed thread mode
- GDR: removed redundant gdrDemul plugin
- GPU: fixed DX3 z-buffer bug
- GPU: new DX11 plugin featured order-independency transparency
- GPU: new DX11 object list multi-layered render simulation
- GPU: new DX11 translucent modifiers, aspect ratio support with hotkeys
- GPU: new DX11 two-pass postfilters, texture conversion on the GPU
- GUI: new VMS manager merged with maple devices, menu rearranging
- MODEL3: added little improvements, still no sound, not a priority since supermodel is here
- NAOMI: added M1/M2/M3/M4 decompression implementation, now all protections are emulated (thanks to Adnreas Naive, Deunan Knute, MAME and DU teams)
- NAOMI: added jvs standart touchscreen emulation (Touch De Uno! 2)
- NET: new proprietary network plugin added
- VMS: added default vms file to all ports

There’s something about portable gaming systems that just doesn’t get old. Perhaps its the nostalgia, or the unique cases and form factors the modders come up with. Whatever it might be, we think they’re great.
[Downing] wrote in to share a portable system he just wrapped up, called the GeneBoy. He broke down a Sega Genesis console to the bare necessities, then attached a 3.5” backup camera screen to serve as the display. A 3rd party Genesis controller donated its buttons to the GeneBoy, while his D-Pad was salvaged from an original Playstation controller.
The case was built from vacuum formed plastic, which made it easy to get just the size and shape he needed to hold everything together perfectly. Even though he says that the outside of the case got a bit roughed up during final assembly, we think it looks great. I would certainly enjoy having all the fun of [Sonic the Hedgehog] or Road Rash in the palm of my hand any day!
Continue reading to see the GeneBoy in action, and be sure to check out [Downing’s] blog along with the Modded by Bacteria forum thread where he discusses the finer details of its assembly.

It’s another month, which means another retro helping of ‘Back in Time’. This time we go back twenty years to take look at the best videogaming magazines from March 1992. This was a time when the quirky platformer Harlequin appeared on the Amiga, WWF Wrestlemania grappled all comers on all formats, Buck Rogers showed everyone how to do a Sci-Fi RPG, Space Crusade made strategic moves on the 8-bit computers and the Game Gear played host to some fine arcade conversions of Space Harrier and G-LOC…
As usual, we have chosen four articles to accompany the main feature itself and are available to read online. These include a review of Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday on the Mega Drive taken from Mean Machines issue 18; a review of Space Crusade on the ZX Spectrum from Your Sinclair issue 75; an interview with Gary Bracey, Software Director of Ocean Software, taken from Amiga Power issue 11 and an interview with Tom Kalinske, head of Sega US, which was taken from Sega Force issue 3.
The main ‘Back in Time’ feature and the online articles can be found at the Out-of-Print Archive website.

Sonic merchandise is in “hot demand”, says Sega. The publisher launched a licensing drive for its mascot last year, and has partnered with a range of companies to put Sonic’s face on toys, bedding, posters and more.
Sega has now launched its own online Sonic shop.
“In the last year we’ve seen a sharp rise in the demand for Sonic merchandise across Europe and the UK in particular,” Sega Europe’s head of licensing Sissel Henno told MCV.
“Apparel has been popular both for adults and kids, and collectible figurines and other toys such as RC vehicles have also been in hot demand.
“We believe the momentum will continue as we team up with new partners to provide additional products of high quality.”
Partners over the past 12 months include Character World, which is working on Sonic-branded bedroom and home décor products, and Five Element, which released a line of mini-figures to accompany Sonic Generations last November.
“We have more products launching later this year,” added Henno. “One of these is a range of construction toys from Meccano set to launch this autumn. We also have plans for books and collectibles, as well as additional apparel across Europe.”

Supermodel SVN r258 is compiled. Supermodel is a Sega Model 3 arcade emulator. Supermodel emulates Sega's Model 3 arcade platform, allowing you to play a number of ground-breaking 3D classics on your PC.
Supermodel SVN Changelog:
r254
Previous "optimization" contained a mistake and made things worse. Removed unnecessary clear of the bottom layer buffer. Now, if there is no bottom layer, it will not be displayed at all and glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT) is used instead.
r265
Forgot to update to-do list in previous revision. Added a comment to mark CRender2D::WriteVRAM() as deprecated.
r266
Byte swapped sample ROMs. This should fix the audio distortion that many users noticed. The differences are particularly noticeable in Scud Race and Daytona 2.
r267
This update fixes (hopefully) the last of the texture upload lags that were affecting some games, in particular Daytona 2 and Spikeout.
To achieve this UploadTextures no longer clears the model cache when called. Instead the cache is kept in-tact (which should help improve cache hits) and all textures referenced by models being rendered are (re-)decoded with every frame.
To help with tracking all the unique texture references contained in a model a new class TextureRefs has been added.
r268
Added a clear() method to VBORef and removed unsafe memset() clear.

I had not published anything new (beware, that does not mean that things do not Dreamcast hehehe). So I opened the trunk of the unfinished ports, and with you I present to Scavenger. SDL Scavenger is a 2-D style game Lode Runner (to collect objects and escape the bad guys). The SDL is an update of the original XScavenger but with more levels, and less bugs
Do not get bored because it has a whopping 197 levels . Scavenger can be found in many systems: PC (Win, Unix ...), GP2X, Pandora, Maemo, HOOPS ... port Features: - Compatible with SD and VMU. - IMPORTANT : save size is increasing ( are saved as videos of your performance. Initially, takes about 37 blocks!). - not included level editor. However, you can recompile the game with new levels - Disabled saving of screenshots. - Recommended to use a keyboard, there are more options to explore. will find the download at Downloads -> IberDC . It includes the game and compiled (binary), the source code and version of Windows (32 bits). And it works nullDC luxury, so what are you waiting? : D PS: Thank Neoblast , which also helped me in carrying out the port!

It is clear that the spiral of our consoles keeps turning, and here a piece of homebrew Dreamcastero story with a happy ending: We go back to 2003 when in full bloom Dreamcastera the scene, created a homebrew contest called "Dream On" (sharing the same name in honor of what would be the first magazine Dreamcastera of scene). Here's the link to the story. The award was interesting: $ 25 and a professional shot of the game. I will ring because those who won were Inhabitants (1st) and Maqiupai (2nd), games, edited by Goat Store. In the competition participated 5 games: the 2 above plus Boll (3rd), Whispered Secrets and Trampalien Gunmen DC. So far so normal and nice The news comes as the author of Boll has shown signs of life and has decided to publish his game and the 3D engine used with open source license ! (Yes folks, after 9 years!).
No doubt great news, thanks quarn ! Oh, I forgot: Boll is a 4 player game such as "run you scoundrel." It is made entirely in 3D library KOS and libq3d. Controls: Analog: Move the ball D-pad: Controls the camera (angle and zoom) A: Jump X: Spin attact L / R: Panning Links and Downloads: Post in DCemu . co.uk Q3D - quarns quick and dirty 3d-engine . A very old (and not very good) Sega Dreamcast 3D engine. Boll - A Sega Dreamcast Game I made for the "DreamOn" competition. Download Boll CDI (150 MB - Use CDDA tracks, hence the large size hehe)

Captain Dreamcast wrote:
Today is the day I present to you my newest pet project, the Dolmexica engine. As I may have leaked on multiple occasions, it is a moddable game engine, similar in style to Senile Team's Beats of Rage, allowing people without any programming experience to create their own game. Since I am a huge fan of 2D fighters like Street Fighter III, it was clear from the very beginning that it was going to be a moddable fighter engine, probably best compared to Elecbyte's M.U.G.E.N. Of course this genre definition is the only similarity shared by these engines, as the Dolmexica engine has been written from scratch (using KallistiOS) by Josh Tari (that would be me) and I can safely say that neither Mugen nor BoR were much of an influence for me.
[...]Of course modifying the source code will be possible too, since the Dolmexica engine will be released under the GPL. As a matter of fact, I have to release it under the GPL, since that is a requirement for using QuickLZ for free. Fair trade if you ask me.

brourke228 posted a tutorial on how to get online with your Dreamcast by extending your LAN over a phone line to your Dreamcast.
Quote:
I've been working on this for a while now and finally got it set up correctly. Through this method you will be using a network device (Netopia R2000/R2020) to automatically accept Dreamcast's modem calls and extend your LAN over a phone line (to Dreamcast). The end result is that you will have Dreamcast on the same subnet as all other devices on your broadband network, it will have internet (obviously), and all port forwarding etc. will be dealt with right on your broadband router just as with your computers. Essentially your broadband router will not be able to tell the difference between this and a BBA.
This is not the cheapest setup, but if you can find the materials for a good price then it's totally worth it. Since this method of connection is completely seamless to connect like a bba, but allows you to connect to anything since it's still using dial up.
Here is what you need to set this up:
-Netopia R2000/R2020
-Router (any broadband router should do)
-Phone Line Simulator (I'm using a Teltone TLS3)
-Dreamcast w/ 56k Modem (Model A and B will both work)
-2 Telephone cords (If connecting two Dreamcasts simultaneously you will need 4 telephone cords, and 6 for three simultaneous Dreamcast connections)
So onto the features of this connection method:
-19Kbps connection speed
-130ms latency (over LAN)
-No phone line is required
-Dreamcast will be on the same subnet as PC's on your network (ie, if your router is 192.168.1.1, then Dreamcast can be anything from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.255)
-As a result of being on the same subnet, it is managed completely by your broadband router as with all modern network devices ( You can even put Dreamcast in DMZ if you so choose)
-The Netopia R2000/R2020 will automatically answer Dreamcast's call
-This works with model A and model B Dreamcast Modems both without the use of a line voltage inducer
-The phone line simulator will supply the dial tone for Quake 3 and any other game which does not support blind dial
-You can connect 2 (3 if you attached a serial modem) Dreamcasts simultaneously so long as there are sufficient lines on your phone line simulator.
-Because Dreamcast is seen on the same subnet as other PCs on the LAN, you can use drdns and connect to PSO using the same method as a BBA without the need to use a codebreaker or autoconnect disc.
[...]I have tested PSO, Quake 3 Arena, Max Pool, 4x4 Evolution, and StarLancer. With 4x4 Evolution, Max Pool and StarLancer it sometimes takes a couple tries for it to connect. If the Netopia router does fail to answer a call, wait for the Channel and Ready LEDs to go out before attempting to redial. Once the game is connected you should not have any issues.

Unsung, a World War I adventure in Wolfenstein 3D, lets you slog through the trenches in true pixelated FPS fashion. Along the way as you fight through the German trenchs as an Allied Trench Raider in an attempt to disable a crucial German Artillery Bunker, you had better watch out for machine gun nests, flamethrowers, poison gas, and an army of soldiers out to kill you.
Based off Wolf4SDL code, Unsung is a stand alone mod which does not require dosbox to run on Vista or Windows 7. With new graphics, sounds, levels, and weapons, prepare for a whole new Wolfenstein 3D experience.

Unfortunately the Dreamcast port is not ready for release. Work is still ongoing though. Originally it had been hoped that both the Dreamcast and PC versions could be released simultaneously but, since the Dreamcast port was not ready it was decided to release them separately. Do not give up hope though, the last of the major bugs was fixed recently and now only a number of small bugs remain to be removed, so you should see the Dreamcast port soon.
