News via http://emu-russia.net/en/
Multisystem arcade/console emulator for Windows has been updated. Changes:
- This release has several new and extensive features. Input latency in every emulator core has been reduced from 25-50ms down to 4ms in a worst case scenario. This offers a massive improvement in the FEEL of the emulator, giving you a better connection to what is being displayed. Also added was a way to fix the "input latency" that plagues NVIDIA and ATI hardware when VSYNC is enabled. RetroCopy now doesn't use SDL, instead relying on it's own asynchronous window and inputing engines to provide the best in performance and features.
- With the emulation, VGM support was added and proper Dendy NES emulation has also been added and according to people with the real devices is the most accurate Dendy emulation available. The whole GUI has been reworked so that each system feels like it has its own place in RetroCopy. Control configuration now has visual controls you can click on to set input.

Deunan has posted news concerning his work on the Naomi hardware (similiar to Dreamcast)
Last week turned out to be very interesting. First I received another cart from Roberto Malone, who graciously donated Giant Gram 2000 to be sacrificed in various hideous and unspeakable experiments - all in the name of science.
Then Andreas Naive found some free time to improve his M2/M3 codec, which made running Virtua Striker 3 possible without having to hack around the game protection. A few more titles need his attention as well and hopefully we will have those working soon.
And finally some luck with NAOMI BIOS protection system - not exactly what I wanted but it's good enough. As long as there is a point of attack I can inject my own code Suffices to say that GG2K was the very first cart ever that I dumped without touching anything on it. While far from being perfect this little breakthrough made this possible:
This game was dumped by ANY so, unlike my previous teasers, you should see it in MAME ROM packs soon.
Ah, I forgot to add that World Kicks actually needs a ball to kick to play Also, it's the first game I've seen to make use of the differences between cart addressing modes - this can be worked around but the best option would be to just emulate it properly. And there are some problems with the shadows, no idea what it's all about yet.

Another world exclusive for Out-of-Print Archive as they release the first issue of MegaTech, thanks to meppi, who scanned and edited the magazine. MegaTech, which was launched with editor Paul Glancey, was EMAP’s Mega Drive dedicated videogaming magazine and the company’s first publciation to use high quality production values such as super A4 glossy paper and digital screen capturing. As usual, the release comes with four online articles from the magazine, including Devil Crash, Mercs, Quackshot and The Immortal. The magazine can be downloaded in its entirety and full resolution by following the link provided at the MegaTech issue 1 page at Out-of-Print Archive.

I'm pretty busy lately so I don't have time to answer any questions in the comments, sorry. I'll just address most pressing matters in this small update.
Yeah, I'm aware that MAME has got some more NAOMI games and that Makaron doesn't recognize the ZIPs. Well duh, I need to know the filenames first and I use MAME sources for that. Unfortunately you can't just unpack those ZIPs and create continuous images - or rather, you can, but since public versions of Makaron don't contain the necessary decryption keys the protection will not be emulated. Hence no joy. Support for these titles will be added soon though.
Apparently there's yet another GUI for Makaron Saves me some trouble for now I guess. One of the ideas I have is to just drop the internal one completly as creating a nice GUI in pure Win32 is such a PITA. I could make an external one in Delphi or something. Hotkey-based disc swapping for Dreamcast seems to work for most people.
Work on DX11 stuff is progressing but truth be told it's a bit like switching from DirectDraw to Direct3D - nothing works anymore and needs to be rewritten plus tons of new stuff to take in. DX9 was pretty matured so documentation wasn't a problem - can't say that about DX11 I'm afraid, there are some demos/sample code but that's not enough in many cases. Fortunately Geometry Shader is simple so I can focus on Compute/Pixel Shader and OIT. Still no idea how costly it'd be to switch shader programs, I keep doing that since I have no choice but maybe a longer PS code with dynamic conditionals would actually be faster? We are talking 2009+ hardware after all.
I've also been messing around with x64 code emitter though it's just for fun now. I still need a 64-bit capable compiler first While it's possible to integrate that into MSVC Express version it's not exactly straightforward - and I'm not paying for STD/PRO out of my pocket just for that.
Also having some fun with soldering iron, but nothing you people would care about I suppose.

DrNeo has posted a new update of the software for the Megadrive/32x Flash cart from Neoflash, heres whats new
NeoMyth MD Menu Deluxe v2.4
more info: http://www.neoflash.com/forum/index....ic,6403.0.html
If you're wondering where 2.3 is, it was a few test builds released in other threads. It's been a while, so I just bumped this to 2.4. So what's new?
- Faster loading from SD cards.
- Fix for the issue where the menu couldn't open a file to load when it opened just fine to read the rom header.
- Improved SMS detection when the SMS rom image doesn't have a header.
- Fix for the Sega CD backup ram issue (the bram size was reported as twice the size it was supposed to report).
- Changed from ".menu" for the special folder to "menu" to make it easier on Windows users. If you have an existing ".menu" folder, rename it to "menu". This also matches the N64 Myth menu name for the special folder.
The archive has all the source, the MDBIOS.bin file you would burn to the menu flash, and the MDEBIOS.bin you would put on the SD card if you use SD-loaded BIOS. Since the special folder name changed from ".menu" to "menu", if you use an older MDBIOS.bin in the menu flash to boot the new menu, there will be a name conflict. You'll either need to update the menu flash bios to the new bios, or settle for two special folders with both the old and new names. I recommend just updating the menu flash.

Demul, emulator gamers, still going strong. In addition to emulate Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2 and Atomiswave, these kids do not up and begin to emulate the plate SEGA MODEL 3 (successor to the Model 2C and Naomi's predecessor).
After the bombs 'Maximun Speed', 'Faster Than Speed', 'Waverunner GP', 'KOFXI', 'Zero Gunner 2' and 'NeoGeo Battle Colisseum' all for Sammy plate, CaH4e3 mouth has made us water with a handful of catches that show the state of emulation of certain recreational board games more complex than Sega. This is the good-excellent ", the less good is that, for now, there is nothing on the best rail'n'gun of history (aka 'The Lost World'), but of the classic 'Scud Racer '. Have also been caught by new dumps of NAOMI.

I remember that we never talked about this project, so let's start the day talking about Tahi.
Tahi - The Aroca War is a project of developing a new game for Dreamcast, specifically an RPG. Reticon Entertainment is the studio behind the game's production.
And ask me where are the pictures of the game ingame ... But here you have it: D
As discussed in his blog, the two images are very old, but surely arouse the interest.
The big question ... have online mode? Phantasy Star Online paints, no?

Sega Sammy's games division has recorded an operating loss for the first half of the financial year of ¥1.3 billion ($16.1m / £10.1m) - an improvement on the ¥38.8 billion ($482.2m / £303.2m) loss for the same period last year.
Sales of home videogame software were up year-on-year from ¥15.7 billion ($194.6 / £122.3m) to ¥18.7 billion ($231.8m / £145.7m).
However, strong performances by the Pachinko, Amusement and Arcade departments helped the entire Sega Sammy corporation record a profit of ¥24.3 billion ($301.9m / £189.9m), compared to a loss of ¥6.3 billion ($78.4m / £49.3m).
Sales for the six months were up 41.1 per cent to ¥217.8 billion ($2.7bn / £1.6bn).
Sega described the home videogame business as slow outside of Japan, revealing it sold a total of 6.6 million games worldwide in the first half.
"In the home video game software industry, the demand was generally weak in the US and European markets due to the headwind like sluggish personal consumption," said Sega Sammy.
"The Group needs to adapt to changing business environment in which the market demand for new content geared to social networking service (SNS), smartphone is expanding."

October 14th, 2010, 01:23 Posted By: wraggster
In parts 1-3 of this, I more or less spent the time discussing why I really liked the Dreamcast system. But that isn't enough by itself to convince us to back and encourage projects for a particular system. It is a big bonus though -- why produce things for a console you don't like -- but if that was it, we would have games out for practically every system that the GOAT Store carries. And, to be clear, we'll look into games for every console that the GOAT Store carries as long as they meet this criteria -- we were just especially willing to jump in headfirst with a console that we loved so much.
Anyway, the Dreamcast meets a lot of criteria that we feel is really important to properly create new titles for it in the way that we did. So what are those criteria?
The Dreamcast was legally reverse engineered. What this means is that someone figured out a way to legally go in a backdoor to the console that allowed the Dramcast to run code that was written on a Sega produced development kit. To be clear, this isn't the first time something like this occurred on a console still in production - it was done on basically every popular cartridge console - for instance, the Color Dreams games on the NES, Wisdom Tree on the SNES, Accolade on the Genesis, and since there was basically no ability for them to stop anyone, practically everyone on the 2600. This legal reverse engineering meant that if we followed a few criteria -- namely, ensuring our packaging was not confusable with standard Dreamcast games and that we used every opportunity possible to remind people that this was NOT first party software -- then we could legally produce games for the system. Now, there is a whole different layer of issues added to this thanks to a law that was pretty new at the time called the Digital Millennium Copyright Act or DMCA, which made a lot of the things that had been proved to be legal in the past questionable again, but we were willing to explore the legalities of that act to produce these games.

October 14th, 2010, 01:19 Posted By: wraggster
On Monday I talked about what I feel made the Dreamcast so unique, and on Wednesday I talked about how much of an attraction the Dreamcast was at launch. Today, I'm going to continue the "Why Dreamcast?" articles with the next bit in the story, and actually intertwine both of the earlier articles together by discussing what made me love it even more than I imagined when I first thought about buying the console.
If you haven't guessed already, although I wasn't really focused on the arcade games when I bought it, I love arcade games. I worked at a family entertainment center. I spent at least a few hours a week (and often more than that) at places that had arcade games, playing pinball and various video arcade titles. I regularly played Rush 2049, Hydro Thunder, Area 51, Maximum Force, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Carnevil, Sega Super GT, Daytona USA, House of the Dead and House of the Dead II when I was out in that time, with The first five games getting my attention any time I found them.
I played them over and over to get a better time, get a few more points or just to blow off some steam. And the Dreamcast was suddenly home to most of these games that I found myself sticking quarter after quarter into - Rush 2049, Hydro Thunder, Daytona USA and House of the Dead II were all basically ported with equal if not better than the arcade graphics and gameplay. And I was enthralled by playing them over and over. I still would play these at arcades, but I felt like I could actually improve by practicing "for free" at home. And I did. I poured tons of time into playing Rush specifically, including starting up a "Rush 2049 league" with a bunch of friends after work.
As a quick aside, if you love this type of gaming, the arcade manufacturer Raw Thrills has recently come out with a game called H2Overdrive, which is the spiritual successor to Hydro Thunder and perhaps my favorite arcade game ever. I wish I had the money and space for one -- luckily, I know of a few locations that have them so I can play them around here. If you liked Hydro Thunder, beg your local Dave and Busters or GameWorks or whatever to get one, and then go play it a ton to thank them for it. Anyway...

Publisher Sega has admitted that it has in the past been over-enthusiastic with its forecasting, resulting the perception that its titles have failed to deliver as expected.
Speaking to MCV in his first interview since becoming European boss, Jurgen Post admitted that the misjudgement has caused some in the trade to believe that Sega’s games have struggled to hit the sell-through that the industry was expecting of them.
“Well, I’d say we’re no exception to the rule,” he explained. “Yes, we have found things a little harder than expected in the past year, but so has everyone. The main reason was, quite simply, putting in numbers a little bit too high. Maybe we have to be more careful in the future.
“It is all about better forecasting.”
