Admin in the FreeDO forum posted
Hello everybody.
It was long since our last update. As you've probably noticed, i'm not visiting forums as often as before.
There was a lot of load and time pressure in my company. Yet there are some news on FreeDO side.
* we've been approached by far-eastern game publisher, for custom 3DO game ports development. They will be redistributing FreeDO with games for Dreamcast, win32 and MacOS X (UBI)
* for all Dreamcast and MacOSX fans out there -- those 2 ports are ready.
* Currently we're holding the release until game publisher will release their games.
* Despite commercial release of Dreamcast and MacOS X ports, they still be available to download from our web-site for free.
* There will be no difference between commercial and free ports, except for the games, they're tailored for.
* free port will have no extended and improved graphics on selected games. Such games will appear as original 3DO games.
* commercial port will have extended and improved graphics and sounds with attached game.
* At the moment we're developing GP2X port, and soon new board will be opened, specific to this port.
* Win32 release is being updated and scheduled to be released soon.
Now we were promised a DC FreeDO release over a year ago, so don't be holding your breath, but still great news.

Trigger Heart Exelica is coming from the small Japanese developer Warashi (possibly known to some from the shooter 'Shienryu' and numerous Mahjong games) and is a Naomi Arcade port, originally released in Japanese Arcade not long ago -- in early 2006. It's a vertical shooter with intense single-player shooting through realtime 3D worlds and AI-adjusted boss challenges.
What's unique about Trigger Heart and distinguishes itself from other shmups is the three button system. Next to the usual shooting and bomb button, there's an "anchor shot", which allows you to capture enemies. Once captures, you can use your foes as shield or throw them back at other enemies as sort of special bomb.
A few weeks after Respotgames's Last Hope comes another great Dreamcast™ shooter. Don't miss out Warashi's Trigger Heart Exelica, shipping today as Regular Version (US$ 59.90) as well as Limited Edition (US$ 79.90). Both versions ship in a DVD type case (just like Sega's Cosmic Smash) and the Limited Edition contains a bonus soundtrack CD.
Both versions of Trigger Heart Exelica are shipping in DVD type cases with different artworks. The regular version artwork is green colored and identical to the one we have seen on Warashi's promotional flyer. The Limited Edition artwork is pink colored with different background.
Edit:
Also check out the Trigger Heart Exelica (w/ Phone Card Segadirect Edition) version for $ 79.90/£41.32

New update of the Saturn emulator for PC. What the author said:
A new version was put up, although not many changes have been made since I don't have the time.
SSF Ver0.08 alpha R5
Subcode Q processing of the CD Block was updated.
The battle progress explanation screen in Gungriffon and the demo screen of Gungriffon 2 have stopped skipping.
Window processing of the VDP2 was updated.
Memory Access Wait processing was updated.
Mission Stick, Multi-controller and Mahjong Panel inputs have been hooked up.
Key arrangement (for the Mahjong Panel):
A-N = A-N keys
Kan = Ctrl key
Pon = Alt key
Chi = Space key
Riichi/Reach = Shift key
Ron = Z key
An option for the (SCU) DSP to be processed in an exclusive thread has been added.
However, since synchronization with the SH2 will become difficult, software with high (cpu) load may fail to work.
CPU usage for dual and multi-core enviroments has been set up.
Exclusive threads processed by the CPUS:
for 2 cpus (Dual Core):
CPU0 - Main Thread
CPU1 - VDP2 Draw Thread
for 4 cpus (Quad Core)
CPU0 - Main Thread
CPU1 - VDP2 Draw Thread
CPU2 - VDP1 Draw Thread
CPU3 - DSP Thread
Save State data version was updated.
Savestates from previous versions cannot be used. Since it's becoming difficult to maintain compatibility...
From now on, if save state data is changed, (backwards) compatibility shall not be taken into consideration.
Although analog input has been hooked up, it has not been checked much.
Since I only have a XBOX360 controller...

Project: Encounter Zone (formally Crystals Of Xaz), a Fenix for Dreamcast game, is now available for download as a playable engine demo. You can get the selfbootable CD image at http://atari.vg-network.com/ezalphasb.zip. The game is unfinished, as it still needs new graphics added, new enemy AI written, and other work done. The concept hasn't been finalized as of yet, but I'm looking to making it a character-based game with a theme other than space. A readme is included that explains the gameplay and controls. Gameplay comments are appreciated.
EDIT: I discovered a gigantic bug with the last build and fixed it, so if you downloaded the demo over the past day, please download it again. I also fixed a little misinformation with the readme. Sorry for any inconvenience and wasted CD-Rs

Michael McCann is working on a 2D scrolling (Up/Down and Left/Right) bump and run platform game written for the Dreamcast. Magic Mario will play as a standard Mario game, but with some newer concepts adapted into the bump and run style of play.
The project only started in 5th of Jan but he aims for it to be complete for April 20, 2007
As of the 5th of Feb the Status was:
There is a playable build, although not all sprites have been written. Sound is fully functional, maps load and are interpreted correctly by sprites. Sprites spawn their processes correctly and die correctly. The player control code can be streamlined a bit, but works well.
There have been no releases yet.

Here are some videos of the entries of the
SEGA Saturn Coding Contest (C4-2006)
captured from real SEGA Saturn. Have a look, they are great!

- [*]
Well, the YouTube videos don't look as good as the original videos that I uploaded. Furthermore, I can't verify if the sound is still there.
Recording method was:
1. recorded with DVD-recorder
2. cutting and re-coding with VirtualDub
3. upload to YouTube (re-coded there, again)

The new Dreamcast emulator for Windows has seen a new update with the release of a updated plugin for the emulator, heres the release info:
Better late than never! By numerous requests we have added support of old gamepads, which don't support Event Notification, to the PAD plugin. We hope that all PADs can now be used with our emulator. Of course, not a big change for "long-awaited" new build, but this is better than nothing.
To install, just replace default padDemul with new one.

Here's my Shenmue Save Converter, so you can load your completed Shenmue 1 (US/JAP) save on Shenmue 2 (PAL), to continue the story.
Using the converter is pretty simple: browse and select your Shenmue 1 savefile, press "A", and then select the destination VMU to save the fixed PAL Shenmue save.
If everything went fine, you'll be able to start Shenmue 2 using your Shenmue 1 save, keeping your money, prizes and moves learned.
The beta version is here: http://www.bucanero.com.ar/2007/01/2...onverter-beta/
If someone wants, burn the selfboot image (Padus DiscJuggler .CDI) and try it out.
My suggestion for beta testing: save the converted file in a different VMU, so you won´t overwrite your existing (and WORKING!) save file.
If it works nice for the "beta testers", then I can do a proper ´official´ release.
I hope to hear your comments, c ya!

Animated flowers in the home certainly aren't a new fad, as we've seen talkative ones, printing ones, networked ones, and even petals that douse fires. Sega Toys' latest gizmo takes the electrified flower to another level, as it looks to integrate the bouncy demeanor of the iSmile flower with your music to create a housemate that jumps and grooves to your tunes right alongside of you. The device accepts any musical source via a 3.5-millimeter input jack, and also features a built-in speaker, illuminated petals, moving leaves, and an expressive face to boot. The iSmile even reacts accordingly to the genre of music coming through, as it gracefully grooves to slow jams while shakin' it until the leaves fall off when listening to heavy metal. Sure, this thing desperately needs a speaker pass-through output so you're not stuck utilizing the presumably weak integrated driver, but nevertheless, you can pick up your own iSmile now for just about 40 bucks.
