A couple changes and improvements over the last release.
- change: downgraded to CDRecord 2.01 (2.01 a26 is\was unstable)
- change: blank CDDA tracks (amount set by you)
- improve: ELF support (deleted your ELF if cygwin was running)
I must note that the amount of blank CDDA tracks required I found was different from the amount nxMakaqu needs (which is two compared to three in most cases).

segadreamcaster (Craig) finally received the reply from Sega Europe and sadly PSO official server will not be back with a third-party or support from Sega.
"Dear Craig,
Thank you for your letter and your campaign pack which have been passed to me by Mike Hayes.
SEGA are proud to have such devoted customers and we are extremely grateful for your commitment to Phantasy Star Online. Unfortunately PSO has reached the point where the number of active players no longer justifies the manpower and resources required to operate and maintain the game servers. This situation is unlikely to change in future and regrettably we cannot re-open the servers, even in a limited capacity.
With regards to your second and third proposals: both of these would involve releasing our server-side code. This software remains the intellectual property of SEGA and it cannot be distributed to a third-party or released into the public domain for various reasons, including copyright and confidentiality. The game bears the SEGA brand and the Terms and Conditions make reference to SEGA. These would both need to be changed. Additionally, the authentication software and database would still need to be stored and maintained by SEGA because we cannot release these to a third-party.
We would encourage all fans of PSO to try Phantasy Star Universe and its forthcoming expansion, Ambition of the Illuminus. If you prefer something closer to the original, PSO Blue Burst for PC has an active and strong community.
Thank you once again for your loyalty to Phantasy Star Online.
Yours sincerely
Ryusuke Ito
IT & Network Director"

- bugfix: dummying overwrite
- bugfix: possible memory leak when closing
- change: CDDA padded with 3 blank tracks
- improve: cleaned source code
- improve: more fail-proof IP.BIN checks
- improve: detecting 1ST_READ.BIN file name
- improve: file associating
- update: cdi4dc 0.3b
- new: CUE and ISO support
- new: added the uninstaller
- removed: BDS functionality
- probably a few others I'm forgetting (not worth noting)
I didn't add anything special to CUE support so if CDRecord flashes open real quick the path inside the CUE needs to be fixed. I'm also fairly sure MP3s in the CUE won't work because I previously tested if MP3s were decoded internally by CDRecord and they weren't.
CUE (and ISO) burning support is under the same as CDI burning, only it's been renamed to CD Image Burner.
You're probably wondering what fail-proof checks I'm talking about for IP.BINs. After your main binary file name is detected it checks the IP.BIN to make sure they are the same.
The main binary set in the IP.BIN is also read before the fail-proof check. This is the detecting 1ST_READ.BIN file name improvement. The main binary is also automatically detected if there's only one or two files in your selfboot folder (the 1ST_READ.BIN and IP.BIN) (just don't try to selfboot a folder with just a IP.BIN, you'll come up with unexpected results).
Have fun.

After two long weeks, the DreamZone forums (part of the DCEvolution Network) finally are back.
Curtiss Grymala wrote:
There seems to have been a serious issue with our server over the last week or so, which rendered the DreamZone boards completely inaccessible.
I have set up a new installation of YaBB on a different server, and restored as much of the original information as possible.
This copy of YaBB does not currently include any of the modifications that I had installed on the DreamZone boards initially.
Please feel free to use the forums again as you normally would. However, please also realize that there are some features that are no longer available on the boards due to the missing modifications. Until I have a chance to look back over the modifications and attempt to install some of them (which will probably be a few weeks at minimum), you will not be able to use the phpBB-style themes. Those include subSilver, subBlack and subTrail.
The temporary address of the new boards is http://dchelp.net/cgi-bin/dreamzoneboards.com/YaBB.pl
Welcome back to the boards, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

It's been a couple of months since I reported on this project, so I thought I'd post a small update on goings on for those interested.
I've been very busy helping to open a new restaurant (details at http://www.bigboy.com/RestaurantImag...April%2024.pdf) and haven't had any time to work on the game. Therefore, it's currently on hiatus. I have every intention of returning to the project once I settle into a less-than-80-hours-a-week schedule, but for now I just don't have the time.
Due to lack of interest in Dreamcast Fenix, I've also closed down the technical site. I have other plans for the address in which it was located and didn't see the point in leaving up a dead site that no one was interested in. I still have the html if anyone wants it. Just drop me a line at webmaster@orubin.com.

For the half dozen Sega Dreamcast owners out there who haven't burned or bought themselves a boot disc nor had their Saturn-successor professionally modded, what the hell are you waiting for? The console is rich with fantastic imports from all regions, meaning a single-region Dreamcast is an unrealized potential Dreamcast.
If you're the kind of gamer who likes to get your hands a little dirty, why not try out the simple, do-it-yourself region switching mod? It requires little more than a soldering iron, some wire and a CD-burner. I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but it's still worth mentioning if you're tired of disc swapping prior to sessions of Ikaruga or Shenmue II.
The process looks fairly straightforward, simple enough to warrant a back-up Dreamcast purchase and an hour of your time.

Icepick posted the following at the Dreamcast-Scene.com Forums:
A news post and forum topic from Senile Team announces more new screen shots for Rush Rush Rally Racing, showing a car selection screen as well as multiplayer and more! Here's the news post from their forums:
And here we are again. More screenshots, including some of the multiplayer mode.
This mode is still under development, though. These screenshots may not reflect the final product.
They are nonetheless very impressive! The three-player mode seems as though each player gets their own vertical "tate" display, as with the popular scroll shooting genre. I'm sure that is the best way to utilize the screen (especially in widescreen), while I imagine that four-player will utilize the screen in a familiar fashion to those with multiplayer N64 and Dreamcast games.
The cars have headlights .
(Driving when it's dark is tough, headlights or not... but it does have a particular feel, not to mention look really cool.)
They also have a cow! Moo.
Have a look at these fantastic screenies:
(for more of this eye-candy please check http://www.senileteam.com/r4shots.php)

Some fantastic news about a new and free Sega Saturn Game released:
SPREAD THE WORD
via insertcredit
Return Fire originally came out for the 3DO, and was a bit like Mass Destruction, but with a bit more flag capturing. Actually a lot more. Quite a decent game, it was, and a Saturn version was completed, then scrapped. This is sort of the "lost" Saturn game, you might say, though there are a few more. Here's why the project was never completed, according to the developer, Prolific.
"The game was finished for the Sega Saturn. At about that time, Hitachi made a Saturn system that was not 100% compatible with Sega's, and the game did not run correctly on it.
We were asked to make the changes which would allow it to run on the "HI-Saturn," and after a bit of back-and-forth, we even received a loaner HI-Saturn test system. But, did not do this work because the project was stopped because the publisher did not believe the Saturn was going to make it. The Saturn version of Return Fire was therefore never manufactured on "protected" CDs and therefore never released."
But the game was finished, and through a lot of legwork, Mr. Saturn at Sega-Saturn.net has released it for download. You must have a chipped saturn (or emulator I suppose) in order to make this work. The game ships with a crapload of languages: english, german, french, spanish, portuguese, japanese, italian, korean, arabic, and russian. There's also full cover art and documentation if you want to make an actual retail-like version. Very cool news for Saturn fans - a new, full game in 2007!

The GameTap Online games service continues to add new titles each week, including the classic Wing Commander and Bug, which was a Sega Saturn title. Games added this week include:
Wing Commander: Electronic Arts’ sci-fi strategy game enlists players in an outer space aerial war to defend Earth from the marauding Kilrathi race. Wing Commander was a revolutionary game when it was released, blazing trails in the realms of 3D gaming, cinematic storytelling and the popularization of sound cards and game soundtracks, so check out the game that started it all!
Warlords Battlecry III: This real time strategy game from Enlight Interactive Inc. further expands the Battlecry tradition of featuring persistent RPG-like fantasy heroes with its retinue of loyal followers fighting massive battles in the Warlords' world of Etheria. As a true sequel to Warlords Battlecry I & II - both of which are also available on GameTap - it features many familiar races and troop-types, while also adding new ones into the mix.
Bug!: Originally appearing on GameTap last week in the form of an “Easter Egg,” this SEGA action title ushers in GameTap’s latest console – the SEGA Saturn. Bug is a big movie star whose film set friends are kidnapped, so he’s off to save the day in a hopping-and-bopping platform-jumping adventure. With some of the greatest Saturn titles on the horizon, this is big news for fans of classic console gaming.
Doki Doki Penguin Land: GameTap unveils SEGA’s Doki Doki Penguin Land, its latest addition to its library of games for the rare SG-1000 Japanese-only 8-bit console. As a penguin in the harsh arctic wasteland, it's your job to outsmart the burly polar bears and roll your egg to the safety of your underground home.
ThinkTanks: GarageGames’ ThinkTanks is a fast-paced tank combat game where only the smartest tanks survive in a deadly arena. The backstory is that the Terranians have been harvesting human brains and popping them into armored vehicles, all to create a game show where these captive Think Tanks do battle for the amusement of wicked alien overlords. You're one of the Think Tanks, but you've escaped! Now it's up to you to free your fellow brains and destroy the enemy.

With all the next-gen news of late (and flurries of name calling based on leaked stats, manipulated figures and plain nonsense) the phrase “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics”*, appears to be more on the mark than ever.
But sometimes statistics can throw up some truly intriguing information. The ‘Many Eyes’ project’s findings regarding average game review scores for last-gen systems including Xbox, PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast, present one of these moments.
According to its ‘visualisation’ (pictured right), which is based on data from the Metacritic review-score site, both the Xbox and the PlayStation 2 are beaten by GameCube and Dreamcast in terms of games receiving the highest-scores.
Very little other information, aside from the raw data is given. So, for example, we don’t know over what period the information derives from (although Metacritic began business in 1999). However, what it does tell us (or in this case show us) is the following:
Of games rated between 97-100 points (from 100), the Dreamcast caught three while the Xbox and PS2 attracted two and one respectively. At the lower end of the scale, games that rated at less than 29 points appeared five times on the PS2, six times on the Xbox, twice on the GameCube; no Dreamcast games rated that low-down.
The number of review ratings used by the data in total is 2,913. This breaks down as follows:
PS2 – 1,417
Xbox – 854
GameCube – 500
Dreamcast - 142
What is also made clear by the stats is that the media likes to be 'nice', with the bulk of the review scores (2,077) appearing between the 57 to 84 point range.
The Many Eyes project is part of the part of IBM's Collaborative User Experience research group – and there’s a vague chance that you could take it seriously. However, the more you drill into the stats, the more questions need to be asked, including: with more than 2,500 PS2 games released in Europe, why only 1,147 reviews in this sample? Why so few Dreamcast games - 142? Which sites did Metacritic use?
So, once again, while looking over the lovely graph, bear in mind that stats are only as good as the information supporting them.

News from Play Asia
Better late than never! The Limited Edition release of Last Hope has finally reached us today, about two months later than initially expected. There have been a couple of push backs to due manufacturing issues, but we are glad that this has been sorted out at the end.
The Limited Edition release of this Dreamcast™ compatible shooting game contains a Vinyl CD soundtrack album (with 9 tracks) and an extra soundtrack leaflet, bundled with a copy of the game in a white color double disc jewel case. This release is strictly limited to only 500 units and each copy of the game contains a hand-written number printed on the back of the spine card.
The Last Hope [Limited Edition] was originally pre-sold at Play-Asia, but the delay has apparently led to a number of cancellations. In other words, we have around 80 copies left in stock now, selling at US$ 79.99 as long as supplies last.
As an apology to all customers for the long waiting time, each preorder will ship with a FREE Dreamcast Visual Memory Card as well as a Last Hope sticker.
