One of the main pioneers of the Sega Saturn Scene, Rockin-B has updated his site with this news:
You see I've added a google search option and a PayPal button on the top of each page. I think it's useful to be able to search for a specific thing in the hundreds of pages of this website.
The PayPal button has been added because I'd like to get more attention to this. People get everything for free on the web, but what I'm doing for SEGA Saturn and SEGA VMU is not for free for me, if you understand what I mean. Donations are an importand thing to keep motivation, especially when working for dead videogame systems, which only a few people remember and even fewer care about the homebrew stuff. All in all, donations help answering the question "What am I doing this for?", which comes to mind from time to time in todays world.
The links to the source code of WinterSports Eins and Atlas have been updated.

ScummVM support for The Legend of Kyrandia is now complete!
This means that they now need you, their users, to give them a helping hand. In order to root out any remaining bugs, extensive testing is sorely needed. So, please dig up your (legal!) copies of Kyrandia 1, download a SVN snapshot of ScummVM and the required Kyra data file from the Downloads page, and post any bugs you find to their Bug tracker . Any other issues can be discussed in their forum.
Currently both CD and floppy editions are supported in their own language. English, French, German and Spanish versions are fully supported, but any other PC (and hopefully Mac) version should work as well (albeit with some text in English, and some interface graphics missing). If you have an unsupported version, they'd love to hear from you! Note that Amiga versions are unfortunately not supported at all at this time.
Here's today's DC build, so DC users can test too:
http://dreamon.cyberdogcastle.com/scummvmdc.zip
The data file can be downloaded from:

Got-Next.com has interviewed Hiroyuki Maruyama the president of G.rev (Border Down, Under Defeat). Its and interesting interview, below I have quoted the questions/answers about the Dreamcast
<blockquote>
GN: How would you feel about making a console-exclusive title without any arcade release?
HM: It's not out of the question at some point, but for the time being, we don't intend to. If Under Defeat was a console original, and it weren't billed as "the last game for the Dreamcast", it's probably safe to say that in Japan, few people would've noticed it, and it would've quietly disappeared.
GN: Some were surprised to see Under Defeat released for the Sega Dreamcast. Are you happy with the game's sales performance on DC, and do you think it will be made available for other systems in the future?
HM: We weren't planning on it selling much to begin with, so it did surpass our expectations. In the future (at least a year down the road), I can't rule out a port to another console, but at the moment there are no plans to do so. Besides, if we had that kind of time we'd rather just make a new game.
GN: Do you think there's a possibility of future releases for the Dreamcast from G.rev?
HM: Again, it's not out of the question, but it's not our decision alone to make, so it would be very difficult.
Under Defeat was also billed as the "final" Dreamcast release. If we look like we bailed out, then came back just because it sold well, I think that would actually be an insult to Dreamcast players.
</blockquote>
Does this mean that Under Defeat could be the dreamcast's last official game? I hope not...

The snes emulator for SEGA Saturn has been optimized a lot in the last weeks. It now uses a homebrew Saturn library (a replacement for the SGL), which takes less cpu time and less RAM space because both are crucial for the snes emu on SEGA Saturn. The fast assembler cpu core from DreamSNES has been ported to Saturn. It's compatibility is not yet as good as with the C core, but the speedup is very good. A lot of unused code could be removed, improving locality and making more high work RAM available. The memory usage has been optimized too, such that ROMs of up to 3.5 MB size can be loaded. Some compile flags did a good job, too. Rendering is now set to palette mode and the Saturn system clock has been increased by 10 percent.
All in all this results in speed being between 2 and 3 times as fast as before. Homebrew SNES Demos are quite fast and sort of playable, with frameskip. The asm core is compatible with more commercial ROMs than I thought and though these are slower in general, some games (like Desert Strike, Contra 3 and others) show the potential to become playable if the GFX rendering could be speed up.
Here are some screenshots (noncommercial ROMs).

I've just compiled a daily build for ScummVM for Dreamcast. Note that this doesn't have MAD support, so you won't be able to use compressed music.
It does use the plugin system though, which is different from any other daily build I've released.
http://dreamon.cyberdogcastle.com/scummvmdc.zip
I didn't bother removing the autosave feature in this release either.

As you may have noticed over the last day, the DreamZone forums have moved to a new address. Our forums can still be accessed from their old location, as you will be automatically re-directed to the new location. However, for your records, the new address of the forums is http://dreamzoneboards.com/
Also, DCHelp has moved to a new address, on a new server. You can now visit DCHelp by visiting http://dchelp.net/ The old site will be removed from the server today, and a script will be put in place to automatically re-direct you to our new address.
In addition, we have obtained an additional hosting plan, and have added mirrored copies of all of our image downloads. Very soon, the links for all of our image downloads will be changed, in order to make use of our new mirror.
Finally, we have also started a project at SourceForge, in order to host all of our Open-Source image downloads. If you ever have trouble downloading our images from either of our in-house locations, you can now pop over to http://sourceforge.net/projects/dcevolution and see if the file you are trying to download is available there.
If you have our sites bookmarked, please go ahead and update those bookmarks with the new addresses.
More exciting news from the DCEvo Network will be coming very soon.

Thanks to Dreamcast Scene for this news:
"Another posthumous Dreamcast release, another Naomi shmup port. After a string of releases that have hardly set the DC alight and perhaps been somewhat overshadowed by the release of the graphical showpony that is Under Defeat, is Radirgy any good or is it more of the same...."

Retrogaming with Racketboy has a piece looking at some of the console-defining titles we miss from that little white box. From the article: "Phantasy Star Online - Sega was one of the main pioneers in online console gaming. While they had modest online offering with both the Genesis and Saturn, the Dreamcast was the first of their consoles to have online capabilities built into the stock machine. The Dreamcast came standard with a 56k modem and also had a (expensive) LAN/Broadband adapter available as an upgrade. Phantasy Star Online paved the way for Sega's groundbreaking online network and for later networks like XBox Live.
