Greg Martin, the artist behind some of gaming's most iconic box artwork, has sadly passed away.
The sad news comes via a friend posting on site Nintendo Age, where users have begun publishing some of Martin's most memorable work, including art for early Sonic the Hedgehog and Pac-Man games.
Greg Martin started his career at Hanna-Barbera, before eventually going on to work at games companies including Nintendo and Sega.
Friend 'Bronty' said of the artist: "Greg was the rare person who both worked in and was a fan of the work of others in his industry. I don't think he ever lost that sense of wonder he had as a teenager for really great artwork, and he was a collector himself of artwork, movies, art books, and other things.
"He was one of the very best and most prolific artists in [the video game] area and the list of well loved game boxes he had a hand in is incredible."
RIP Greg, and thanks for basically teaching me to draw.

In a bizarre series of events an early build of the unreleased Dreamcast version of ToeJam & Earl 3 has found its way onto the internet.
Assembler forum user ZakhooiTM discovered the early build on the internal hard drive of a Dreamcast dev kit they purchased on eBay for $1200. While publisher Sega has never approved this build's release, series creators Greg Johnson and Mark Voorsanger have assured ZakhooiTM that they will look the other way when it comes to this "community release," with the stipulation that the beta is not to be sold or pressed to a disc. While ToeJam & Earl 3 eventually made its way onto the original Xbox in 2003, the Dreamcast version never saw the light of day and according to ZakhooiTM, it's a lot different than its commercial build. "The version on the devkit is more like the original on the megadrive but then in 3D," the hacker explained. "So no bosses, gates, keys, mini-games and hub connected world. Also no cutscenes, you just begin at the begin of the map and go to the elevator then can go to the next level."This rough cut is also pretty buggy, and while the first nine levels run well, stages 10-12 are prone to lockups.Since ZakhooiTM can't receive money for this unfinished build, the video game archaeologist has instead asked fans of the historic beta to donate money to the Mardan School, an american charity that helps children with learning disabilities. You can download the ToeJam & Earl 3 Dreamcast prototype from the Assembler forums, where there are instructions on getting it to run.

I had not published anything new from my "handwriting". I ask apologize in advance, you'll understand that there are many other priorities in my life ... and hobbies have these times Lately I've dedicated to collecting source codes of games made with libdream (you know, the precursor library KOS), and rewrite them to work on KOS . Motives? In addition to preservation , serve as an excellent introductory guide to programming Kallistios and, why not, rediscover little gems !
Tic-tac-toe ,
this is definitely the weakest of the ports. Very simple, allowing games to the already well-known Tic-Tac-Toe, either against the CPU or another player. I added a 50/60Hz selector, OGG and background music (CC).
Robot Finds Kitten
Here a rarity, as it says in its description : Robot Kitten is Zen is a simulation, games with an ASCII interface, wherein the user (playing the eponymous robot and represented by a sign) should find the kitten ( . represented by a series of random characters) in a field of other random characters
has its own website: robotfindskitten.org and there are plenty of ports for all systems! So another preserved for KOS version!
DCIS - Dreamcast Emulator Space Invaders
And let the best for dessert . DCIS is a 8080 emulator that can play the legendary Space Invaders, with some extras included! Another very interesting port in pure KOS, and little sounds of Martians! lol Here's the page, still active, the original game: DCIS
Find the three games (binaries and sources) in the Downloads section -> IberDC (or your right, Latest Downloads)
Now notice that 2014 will also homebreweras surprises! Do not forget to comment!

What better way to follow up our Dave Perry interview with a brand new release of Sega Pro?
Even though it's the middle of winter right now, let us take you back to the summer of 1992 with issue number 8 of this great magazine. We start of our featured articles with a review for the Mega Drive classic Alisia Dragoon. Then we move on to the review of one of the best games on the Game Gear: Monster World 2: The Dragon's Trap, known in the west as Wonderboy 3: The Dragon's Trap.
Now we move on to a classic movie conversion: The Terminator and we finish off this update with a somewhat forgotten shoot em up: Trouble Shooter.

As of, well, today, the alpha version of Sega Dreamcast emulator Reicast is available for Android. It's essentially an Android-based version of Nulldce.
Quick warning: the developer of Reicast reckons that you'll need to have at least a Cortex-A9 dual-core 1GHz+ processor in your Android device to run Reicast properly.
Given this is an alpha version of Reicast, you might obviously come across a few bugs. Otherwise, you should have no problem running the likes of Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Soul Calibur, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and more.
Reicast even works on the Ouya, by the way. So, if you have one to hand, you download the .apk file and get it running on a big screen.
You can download Reicast for free on Google Play [Download here] right now.

Picking your trench in the console wars used to be a much simpler affair. You could go with Nintendo and their pair of Italian plumbers, or you could side with Sega and their totally radical hedgehog with an attitude. It's been a while since that rivalry really mattered, but this installment of Time's look back at the first four generations of gaming consoles stirred it right back up. Let's go, Sega Genesis nerds! Fight me in real life!
Just kidding, we're all friends now. Besides, I was always jealous of you all getting to play Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Time's next installment in the series is due Thursday, December 26, which should be plenty of time for PlayStation fans to finish a batch of popcorn and reminisce on their console of choice's decade of domination.

Come up with a homebrew! Corbin , one of the leaders of the future Scourge project and we do anything you released DreamEdge, are encouraged to portage a classic like Alone in the Dark for the Dreamcast! As we said, is based on a old port made in 2000 called "Free in the Dark" from reverse engineering the original code (which received permission from the original author). The engine I-MOTION is the one based, hence can operate Alone in the Dark 1 and 2. For this to work we will be required to have the original game files AITD. For now, we note that there are still many bugs present (especially 2), and to improve the code to correct port. It is best that you see the video below so you can see the progress.

Kotaku noticed that "sonicthehedgehog-movie.com," "sonicthehedgehog-movie.net" and "sonicthehedgehogmovie.net" were registered to Sony last week, though Sony themselves have yet to announce any film adaptation of Sega's iconic mascot.
Sony Pictures Animation has created both fully-animated (Open Season) and live-action-plus-CG (The Smurfs) in the past, so it's hard to say which way a Sonic movie, should it ever be made, would go. If it's the latter, we're telling you right now Sony, making it dark and edgy - complete with Dr. Robotnik/Eggman torturing someone - has already been done.
Sonic the Hedgehog - The Movie. Coming sometime. Possibly. Running time (if it happens): fast.

SBWin, the SEGA Genesis ROM converter for Windows, has been updated to version 3.2.0.
This new version contains a number of changes and bug fixes. Here is partial list of what’s new:
- Zip compression bugs fixed
- The conversion setting is now selected using radio buttons instead of a combo box
- Fixed issue where some MGD files could not be added
- Combined compression was removed due to a design decision (but individual compression is still included)
- Some menu options were renamed or removed to make the interface a bit cleaner.
More changes are coming in the future (including an eventual rewrite of the application).

A book detailing the history of the Sega Mega Drive has more than doubled its Kickstarter target with four days to go.
SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works will, according to its authors at Read-Only Memory, be "the ultimate retrospective of the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis".
When CVG first reported on the book in early November, it had already received nearly a third of its £30,000 target in its just two days.
Now, with four days of funding remaining, the target has been smashed, with £79,256 pledged at the time of writing.
Read-Only Memory has stated that it will reinvest the extra funds in the book to increase its quality.
"I must confess I had absolutely no idea the campaign would go like this," wrote designer Darren Wall, "so I was entirely unprepared for this situation arising.
"My immediate instinct is to direct the money back at the book itself, so everybody benefits from a book with more pages, better production values (they were budgeted to be pretty darn nice already!) and even more impressive cover finishes."
Originally planned to be a 300-page hardback book with more than 35,000 words of Mega Drive information and interviews, the book will now be extended to 340 pages.
A number of new interviewees have also been announced, on top of the 23 previously confirmed. These include Greg Johnson (co-creator of ToeJam & Earl), Ed Annunziata (creator of Ecco the Dolphin), Peter Morawiec (creator of Comix Zone), Michael Latham (producer of Eternal Champions) and Rich Karpp (developer of Vectorman).
The book will be published in June 2014. Those interested in it can still pledge until Monday December 9, with a £30 pledge guaranteeing a copy.
