A homebrew software suite for video game consoles developed to help in the evaluation of upscalers, upscan converters, line doublers and of course TV processing of 240p video. The Wii, Dreamcast and GameCube versions have modes for 480i, 288p, 576i and 480p evaluation as well.
It consists of tests designed with the processing of 240p signals in mind, although when possible it includes other video modes and specific tests for them. These have been tested with video processors on real hardware and a variety of displays, including CRTs, PVMs, BVMs and Arcade monitors via RGB.
As a secondary target, the suite aims to provide tools for calibrating colors, geometry, linearity, overscan and black & white levels, for specific console outputs and setups.

A year has passed and ScummVM 1.7.0 is here.
With this release we have added support for 45 completely new games. These are:
- The Neverhood
- Mortville Manor
- Voyeur
- Return to Ringworld
- Chivalry is Not Dead
Also, we have updated the MT-32 emulator, added an OpenGL backend, improved many aspects of the GUI, enhanced the AGOS engine, made Urban Runner's videos less CPU-demanding, fixed tons of bugs in dozens of SCI games, improved sound in Loom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and improved platform portability for the Tony and Tinsel engines.
But this is not all. We have added experimental support for the OUYA console (we couldn't add GCW-Zero support simply because sev still awaits his console from Kickstarter), made major improvements to the PS2 port and merged the Bada with Tizen ports.
The full list with all changes mentioned can be found in our release notes and the release can be obtained as usual from our downloads page.
Everybody Way Oh!

via http://www.aep-emu.de/
The Arcade emulator Final Burn Alpha has been updated. The emulator also supports SNES, MegaDrive, Neo-Geo CD, PC-Engine and some other systems.
Quote:
This one sees the addition of a new team member. We welcome dink to the team who has done a lot of excellent work on save state and general bug fixes. He has also improved iq_132s old Kaneko Super Nova driver which is now enabled in release builds with more games supported. He has also added vbt´s Choplifer driver to the Sega System 1 driver.
A little warning for self-compilers and port maintainers. Later versions of GCC subtly mis-compile the M68000 core. An example is heads missing from the zombies in Altered Beast (and the zombies not clearing from the screen when you kill them). This has been around for a while and a fix still eludes us. It also seems to affect older versions of MAME compiled with newer GCC compilers in the same way. The release builds posted here are compiled with MSVC and are not affected.
A quick mention goes to Romhack too, who is doing excellent work porting FB Alpha to the QT framework. We wish him look and are excited by his progress.
There is all the usual goodness from the rest of us too. Even the Neo Geo macro buttons work again!

Just FYI after I’m done with this run there will be a small break. Don’t expect 3rd run to start right away, if at all. I want to focus a bit on other stuff, like PCE for example.
To that end I’ve already purchased DE1-SoC kit from Terasic/Altera. Original DE1 was quite popular due to both low price and pretty neat features like lots of I/O pins, SDRAM / SRAM / FLASH chips, VGA output and audio codec. People’ve managed to emulate Amiga 500 on that, as well as PC-XT class system (CPU and the peripherials) good enough to run Dune 2. But, DE1 was based on Cyclone II, something that Altera dropped support for about a year ago. So, basically GDEMU is based on (as of now) outdated FPGA.
DE1-SoC looks a lot like DE1 and also has a great price for what it is – the main reasons for the name not being DE6 I suppose. But the big difference is the “System on Chip” part, it’s not just a bigger and better FPGA from the current 28nm based Cyclone V family, it has two physical Cortex A9 cores integrated into it. Each core runs at 800MHz and is a bit more than twice faster compared to Raspberry Pi CPU overcloced to 900MHz. CPUs are connected to FPGA fabric with 2 high-speed busses and one slower, simpler 32-bit bus, which is easier to use in smaller projects. There are a few Linux based images provided with the board, and the SoC can boot either the CPU first from microSD memory card or the FPGA first from the on-board configuration chip.
I’ve already put this new toy to good use – its considerably bigger internal SRAM allows for bigger logic analyzer buffer. I could probably already make a prototype PCE drive replacement that would be good enough to run a few games. And that’s exactly what I want to try next.
Saturn project is also progressing nicely, I’ve built a prototype board to test a few ideas. The software side is not yet ready though – well, there’s no rush, but I would’ve tried something already if I wasn’t busy building GDEMU

The set-top box market is currently flooded with many cheap Android boxes, but they tend to offer limited remote access plus expansion capability, so it's about time that something more exciting popped up. One such candidate is the EzeeCube, which aims to be an idiot-proof media hub with three main selling points: Auto-sync content across multiple platforms (Android, iOS, Windows and OS X); simple initial setup for accessing hub content from anywhere; and cable-free expansion that lets you stack up to four modules. We're talking about slapping on an extra hard drive, a Blu-ray drive, a TV tuner and even a retro gaming module that will bring your dusty SNES and SegaMega Drive / Genesis cartridges back to life. No messy cables here.

Brawl is a somewhat interesting new homebrew game for the Sega Master System. It mixes various known video games characters such as Alex Kidd and let you fight against other well known franchises. Also it takes backgrounds from Wonderboy and other games and mixes it up, which in sum makes up a nice gaming soup á la Super Smash Bros. The game is still in (slow) development and even Sonic is said to make his appearance in this game. Make sure to keep your eye on this project as it really develops nice.
This is a perfect example of what free, non commercial, fan games can look alike.
