We return this week with issue 5 of Dreamcast Magazine by Paragon Publishing/Imagine Publishing.
Since we already had a ton of reviews from this magazine on the site, our update refreshes these a bit so that they now appear as fully edited and restored previews on the site. And we put in a new one as well, just for good measure. The first review we feature is for the timeless arcade classic Crazy Taxi. After that we look at the often forgotten Armada. And after this we look at both Virtual On Oratorio Tangram and Zombie Revenge.

On the 9th of October 2001, the very first commit was made to a CVS repository and thus the ScummVM project was born...
As I write this post, it is now the 11th of October 2013 and we have over 58000 commits in the ScummVM Git repository... but still based on that initial commit over a decade ago!
Thus on the project's 12th anniversary, I believed ScummVM deserved a present... Thus myself, James Woodcock and the ScummVM PR Team present "ScummVM: THE MOVIE"!

So get the popcorn and enjoy!

Sega has cut an unspecified number of US jobs as part of ongoing restructuring.
Venture Beat received confirmation directly from a Sega representative on the matter, but specifics were largely withheld.
“As the gaming industry continues to evolve, companies must adapt and adjust in order to compete and succeed in an ever-changing environment,” the rep stated.
“As a result of this, Sega of America has recently undergone a restructure that will enable the company to focus efficiently on developing new and existing content across digital platforms as well as continuing to focus on key brands for packaged goods.”
Various sources are claiming that it was a small number of staff let go, but an exact figure is still unknown.
Sega originally began its restructuring plans last year, closing offices in Europe and Australia.

Sega’s speedy games mascot Sonic the Hedgehog is getting his first ever CG animated TV series.
It’s called Sonic Boom and is co-produced by Sega of America and Genao Productions.
Kicking off in 2014, the first series features 52 11-minute episodes and will debut on Cartoon Network in the US and CANAL J and GULLI in France with other territories to follow – with partners are actively being sought.
It’s described as a “character driven comedy” and will feature established co-star Tails, mainstays Knuckles and Amy Rose as well as established baddie Dr Eggman. New characters not seen before in the Sonic series will also star.
Creation of the series is being overseen by Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka.
“Sonic is the star of the Sega universe and the stage is now set for him to shine like never before,” Sega’s chief content officer for Sonic Hiroyuki Miyazaki said.
“By teaming up with world-class partners in television animation like Cartoon Network, Genao Productions and GULLI, we’re ensuring that the Sonic legacy will be introduced to a new generation of children across the globe.”

We started the weekly summary to the appearance of the translation of the Fire Pro Wrestling D (game only released in Japan, for its subject) into English by the group releases ReviveDC . This translation is due to the celebration of the 14th anniversary of the American release our Dreamcast! (09/09/99). Unfortunately we can not offer the download (no patch, should seek the full ISO).
The translation is not 100% perfect, but it shows great team work. I leave the full README spread the news!

Toejam & Earl 3, an unreleased Dreamcast game that was in development by Visual Concepts and Sega in 2000, has long been thought to be a lost game. Fortunately for Dreamcast enthusiasts, a beta version was discovered on a recently purchased development box by ASSEMblerGames forum member ZakhooiTM. So far, the beta version is completely playable and seems to be far along in its stages of development. ZakhooiTM intends to release the discovered code to the Dreamcast community sometime in the future, possibly after a fundraiser to cover his costs of purchasing the development box.

Isotope Studios, the developer behind upcoming 3D horror games Scourge and Hypertension: Harmony of Darkness, has released the source to its custom 3DGE game engine. The source, along with all of the necessary documentation, is available at the 3DGE SourceForge page. Additional support can be found at Isotope's forums.
According to Isotope, Dream3DGE is a fully 3D game engine built on id Software's DOOM engine. From the SourceFoge page, features include
- stable, fast OpenGL rendering system with support for Quake 2 and 3 models
- splitscreen local networking for cooperative and deathmatch play
- SEGA Dreamcast portability (currently under /source)
- powerful DDF, RTS, and COAL scripting to make your DOOM mods come to life
Isotope developed 3DGE for Hypertension, and it is being released to the public in the hope that it will catch on and spur a new generation of 3D Dreamcast projects.

Back with a new update a little sooner than expected, we are proud to present you with the latest issue of the Official Sega Saturn Magazine, number 13 to be precise.
As this issue is packed with content, we could almost put up the full issue as a preview, which we almost did! So lets get started with the previews for this week:
We start of strong with an interview with Sega AM#2's Hiroshi Kataoka about Fighting Vipers. Then we go on to features for Real Bout Fatal Fury as well as Virtual On for the Saturn, but also Sega Touring Car Championship, Virtua Fighter 3 and X-Men vs. Street Fighter, all of which are for the arcade versions. Finally we have a couple of reviews for the Sega Saturn: Street Fighter Alpha 2, Tomb Raider and World Series Baseball 2.

Hey there, space cats! The SEGA Dreamcast turns 14 today in the USA, how are we celebrating? Well, we will be delivering a bunch of Dreamcast related content all month long. We will have all our weekly features focus on Dreamcast music, games and nostalgic moments. Expect to see Dreamcast related articles on Monday Memories, Tuesday Tunes, Saturday Sequels, and Sunday Round Table. There will also be the return of the ‘SEGA in the Media‘, where we spot SEGA references in current TV shows and movies (sometimes even the past). We already started celebrating by giving you guys a really awesome episode of the Swingin’ Report Show featuring the editor-in-chief and writer for Official Dreamcast magazine.
We already have a lot of special interviews planned for this month.
* Interview with David Munoz Co-Author of "Service Games: Rise and Fall of Sega"
* Interview with Duranik's Johannes Graff developer of "Sturmwind"
* Interview with Senile Team's Roel Van Mastbergen developer of Beats of Rage, Rush Rush Rally Racing, and the upcoming Age of the Beast
* Interview with Water Melon Team developers of Pier Solar
Stay Tuned this month should be fun.
