Greg Martin, the artist behind some of gaming's most iconic box artwork, has sadly passed away.
The sad news comes via a friend posting on site Nintendo Age, where users have begun publishing some of Martin's most memorable work, including art for early Sonic the Hedgehog and Pac-Man games.
Greg Martin started his career at Hanna-Barbera, before eventually going on to work at games companies including Nintendo and Sega.
Friend 'Bronty' said of the artist: "Greg was the rare person who both worked in and was a fan of the work of others in his industry. I don't think he ever lost that sense of wonder he had as a teenager for really great artwork, and he was a collector himself of artwork, movies, art books, and other things.
"He was one of the very best and most prolific artists in [the video game] area and the list of well loved game boxes he had a hand in is incredible."
RIP Greg, and thanks for basically teaching me to draw.
