We have been promised a Giana Game for years on the Dreamcast and this one has popped up out of knowwhere, heres the release info thanks to Dreamcast ES:
OpenGGS - Open Great Giana Sisters
v0.9.3
---------------------------------
http://openggs.romanhoegg.ch/
Licence : GNU GPL v.2
---------------------------------
Author: Roman Hoegg
OpenGGS is my humble attempt to reimplement “The Great Giana Sisters” as an easily portable Free Software/Open Source project. The goal is to stay as close to the original game as possible. However, it does not use any source code from the original games.
Dreamcast port by Indiket - www.dreamcast.es
Release notes for Dreamcast:
The port has been tested on a real Sega Dreamcast hardware and it works very well, near a perfect conversion of the PC version. Also, it has been tested with nullDC and Makaron emulators with good results.
Inside this file you will find a bin folder and a src one. Use all the files of the bin folder to create a cdi image and use it with an emu or burn it.
Inside the src folder you will find the source code to compile the DC version and also the original documentation.
This game includes no hardly any graphics and sounds/music from the original games. You can add .mod music in the /base/default folder but using the same names as indicated in the audio.ini file.
The dreamcast port can save your records in the VMU. You need a VMU in A1 port and it takes 3 blocks (including the nice icon visible at bios menu).
Controls:
D-pad: Move Giana
Start: Enter
A: Jump
B: Fire ball
X: Run
Y: "Hard down attack"
R: Show stats
L: Quit
Happy dreamcasting

Nintendo is not the only company that has had to explain, in press releases, what in the world it does. For at least 20 years, so has Sega. That description has never been much fun, sadly. But it has changed.
1989 Press release announcing executive hiring at Sega of America...
Based in South San Francisco, Sega of America Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sega Enterprises Ltd./Japan, recognized as a global leader in the high-technology entertainment game industry.
Sega's worldwide activities involve the conception, creation and sale of consumer electronics and entertainment products, including coin-operated arcade games and home video hardware, software and electronic toys, and the operation of arcade centers.
1990 Press release announcing Thomas Kalinski becoming president of Sega of America
(Note: Some of these descriptions are for the Japanese home company; others for the American subsidiary)...
Sega Enterprises Ltd./Japan is a 39-year-old worldwide leader in high-tech electronic entertainment systems and toys. Sega, a public company listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, is one of the fastest-growing companies in Japan.
1995 Press release announcing Sega's intent to not just support the Genesis and the Saturn, but to start a company called Sega Soft that would "focus on developing content for multimedia PCs and the Internet"...
Sega Enterprises Ltd., is a nearly $ 4 billion company recognized as the industry leader in interactive digital entertainment media and is the only company that offers interactive entertainment experiences both inside and outside the home. Sega of America's World Wide Web site is located at http://www.segaoa.com.
2000 Press release announcing the debut of the Dreamcast game Sonic Shuffle
(Note: Sega's getting more verbose, but it's awkward to see that that company dollar value they cited five years prior has shrunk so much. But check out their better URL. The company would be a third-party developer within a year.)...
Sega of America is the American arm of Tokyo, Japan-based Sega Corporation responsible for the development, marketing and distribution of Sega videogame systems and videogames in the Americas. Sega Corporation is a nearly $2.5 billion company recognized as the industry leader in interactive digital entertainment media, offering interactive entertainment experiences both inside and outside the home. Sega of America's World Wide Web site is located at www.sega.com.
2005 Press release announcing the development of Full Auto and Condemned: Criminal Origins for the Xbox 360...
SEGA of America, Inc. is the American arm of Tokyo, Japan-based SEGA Corporation, a worldwide leader in interactive entertainment both inside and outside the home. The company develops, publishes and distributes interactive entertainment software products for a variety of hardware platforms including PC, wireless devices, and those manufactured by Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. SEGA of America's Web site is located at www.sega.com/usa.
2009 Press release announcing the release of Let's Tap
(Note: I'm sure people are busy at Sega, but did nothing change in four years? There's nothing new to say about the company?)...
SEGA of America's Web site is located at www.sega.com/us.
I could now ask you readers how you would describe Sega, but that might be asking for trouble.

News via Dreamcast ES
Pxdrum is a drum simulator platform written in C + +, using SDL and SDL Mixer and there are versions for PSP, Windows, Linux and Mac, and adds the Dreamcast now (doh!).
The program is written by James Higgs, its website is: http://jum.pdroms.de/
Here are two downloads, the full Commission with all necessary files (including demo songs) and a zip with the binary (needed to download data files from the website of the author). Does not include source code for the express request of the author.
NOTE: This is a beta version, not that it works on a real dreamcast, was tested only in NullDC. Please try to tell me that this can work. Complaints, comments, suggestions and insults are welcome (or not?).

News from the Official site
As promised, the 0.9.1 release is now out. It is somewhat faster than 0.9, the core is around 30-40% faster, and MMU performance is nearly an order of magnitude better, but rendering performance is still holding things back overall. There’s also (finally) preliminary VMU support for anyone who cares about that - you can attach them in the controller settings panel.
As always, it’s available from the download page, release notes are here. And to make things even easier for Debian users, there’s now an apt repository available - just add the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://www.lxdream.org/debian unstable main
deb-src http://www.lxdream.org/debian unstable mainand do apt-get update, apt-get install lxdream.
Next version we’ll try and attack the rendering performance problem…
What’s New
Lots of core performance improvements, especially in the MMU
VMU support (memory card only)
GDB remote debugging support
Quick-save states
LIRC driver
Now uses the ~/.lxdream directory (by default) to store runtime data
Audio + input drivers are now built as plugins

Runik has posted news concerning his Sega Saturn Emulator for Windows:
As I was converting different VDP2 modes to the new cache, I came across testing the game 3 Dirty Dwarves. This game got a strange problem since version 0.32, as main player characters weren't being diplayed on screen : you could move around, see bullets fired, or punch the villains, but that was it. You could only guess your position by the scrolling moves.
At first I thought it was related to the DSP, as some games use it to do some sprite calculations, but after a quick check that wasn't the case.
Some more tracing lead me to some unmapped memory access (which wasn't logged for some reason), and reading through the SH2 hardware manual gave me the aswers I was looking for : the SH2 has an internal cache (4KB of data, and 1KB of addresses), which can be configured to be used as a 4 ways cache (all the data cache is used as instructions / data cache), a 2 ways cache (the first half is used as a high speed RAM, and the other one as regular cache), or completely disabled (4KB used as high speed RAM).
After adding this 4KB area to the memory map of the emulator, bingo ! The sprites are displayed

What better way to follow up the release of a new commercial game for the Dreamcast than a new homebrew game from our buddys over at Dreamcast ES:
Heres the translated news:
Be watching as usual every Sunday, now plays a new port ... this time xD card (I know, maybe a little repetitive, and there is more variety).

Who says the Dreamcast is dead, years after Sega left us the Console is still getting Commercial Games released for it:
Developed by HUCAST, DUX is a 2D shooter that combines strategic gameplay with exhilarating shooting not completely unlike its predecessor.
Instead of orbiting satellites, control a cute and chic, pink and orange aircraft and shoot down all the opposing forces.
Utilizing the graphical capabilities of the console, the game includes some smooth and vibrant movies that will surely stimulate your gaming appetites.
Although the tactical aspect is still present, it plays a smaller role than in Last Hope, making the system easier to master. Still, not everything depends on your reflexes and button punching skills, you also need an intact brain with adequate memory to carry yourself through this crisis.
Now have a look at the colorful screens:
Dux is available as Limited and Standard Editions. The Limited Editions carries and original soundtrack that records all music in the Obvious Soundtrack and original pieces.
DUX US$ 27.90
Another Dreamcast shooter is going to hit the markets soon, watch out for the Pink Bullets!
Last Hope: Pink Bullets US$ 39.99
Besides shooters, the comedic brain twister Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles is restocked, order your copy now:
Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles US$ 39.99
Dreamcast Dead, NEVER and remember the Homebrew Scene is still going strong too

Pop superstar worked with publisher on Moonwalker game and Space Channel titles
Sega has publicly waved goodbye to ‘King Of Pop’ Michael Jackson.
The publisher worked with the superstar on title including Moonwalker and Space Channel 5 – whilst Jackson was also rumoured to have penned the score for Sonic The Hedgehog 3.
Jackson died last week at his LA home from heart failure.
Sega commented:
“We here at Sega were very sad to hear about the passing of Michael Jackson. He was a true music legend whose songs touched each of us at some point in our lives.
“We are proud to have worked with him and included his music in some of our most well-remembered games and are sure that his genius will live on through his great body of work. We have no doubt that future generations will be moonwalking to all his greatest hits.”
