CHN is working on a new game for the Dreamcast, heres a screen and his latest WIP news:
The little "pet" project I'm working on every now and then is "ZhongWen". This is a puzzle game which, when finished, will be released for the PC and the Sega Dreamcast, but I'd go as far as to say that it should be portable to any platform with some kind of OpenGL support.
The graphics are naturally not that advanced since I'm not that much of a designer, really. But you should get the game mechanics idea.
There are several extras, you can create chain reactions. There can be more that one path in one level, and each path is defined as a bezier curve.

Sega's already given its seal of approval to a few Genesis / Mega Drive-based handhelds, but never one like this new "Retro Gen" device from Innex, which makes use of actual, dust-collecting cartridges instead of just some mere on-board memory. Of course, not everyone has a stack of Genesis carts at their disposal (a sad state, indeed), so the handheld also apparently comes pre-loaded with 20 unspecified games, and you'll supposedly even be able to eventually load some "licensed ROMs" onto an SD card using a special cart. While it's still not clear exactly how widespread of a release it'll get, at least one retailer does already has it up for pre-order for just $49.99 (discounted from $59.99), and it's promising a ship date of July 25th.

It's Sonic the Hedgehog's 18th birthday today, and in order to celebrate, Sega Europe has been giving away Sonic swag all day via Twitter and Facebook.
Our favorite blue hedgehog is already 18-years-old? It seems like only yesterday he was being placed in mediocre game after mediocre game, making millions of dollars per title on name recognition alone. Ah, how far we've come since that fateful day back in June of 1991, when something fresh and new stormed the video game store shelves, promising innovative game play for decades to come. I'm almost getting misty here.
While I dry my eyes, Sega Europe has been busy handing out Sonic-themed swag all morning via both Facebook and Twitter. They've got soundtrack samplers, stationary packs, and all kinds of Sonic junk, or at least they did when they started. Pickings are probably a bit thin now, considering they've been doing this since 11am UK time, but there is always hope.
Hit up the link below to find out what you need to do to possibly get your hands on celebratory goodness. Happy birthday, Sonic the Hedgehog!

News via Dreamcast ES
Today I took advantage of a little free time available and will bring a "quick & dirty" port (port done quickly and in a short time) of a retro classic that is more than one sound: D
Yar's Revenge is a quick port of the classic Atari game 2600/VCS created by Howard Scott Warshaw. Is defined as a shoot-em-up abstract, and the remake uses the SDL library.
Author: Paul Robson (who behave like other games and 3D Deathchase, TrailBlazer or Foosball)
License: GPL v2
The goal of the game is to destroy the gun protected by a shield. Our ship must be firing in the shield to open the hollow barrel. The bad thing is that we will be firing cannon
Besides the cannon, there is another enemy that is the missile that we will pursue. If we are in the neutral zone, the missile can not kill us but we can not shoot.
The control is easy: D-pad to move the ship and with the shooting.

President of Sega Europe expands role to North America following Simon Jeffery’s departure
Mike Hayes is to add USA responsibilities to his existing Euro role at Sega, becoming overall head of what is effectively 'Sega West'.
An official announcement is expected to eventually follow this morning's news that erstwhile Sega of America president Simon Jeffery has switched to Ngmoco.
Hayes is COO (chief operating officer) and president of Sega Europe.
MCV has revealed that he will now become the same for Sega of America, with full responsibility for operations and development.

DCEmu Member and Coder Samurai X has posted this on Lavalit:
I will tidy up what ever projects are left such as Dreamcast, xbox, gp2x and not introduce any new features. This way people should be able to play on all consoles as my parting gift to all of you.
As for the website and sourceforge, I'm handing it over to Damon. We will move it to his hosting company and it should for the most part be transparent for all of you.
It has been a pleasure working with all of you but life has me real busy, though you will probably still see me lurking around here and there.
From all at DCEmu we thank SX for his work on the Openbor Project, good luck with real life.

- Added loading screen (displayed when an application is loading).
- Added initial support for changing the cursor GUI (yet it can be modified only by replacing file the cursor /cd/gui/cursor.png).

- Fixed graphical glitches most of the GUI.
- The event "onload" (from xml < body>) of the application now works in another thread.
- Rewritten API functions work with the console commands, and added new features associated with the output of the console.
- Now the core DreamShell can be "put to sleep".

While searching for some information on the project I contacted one of the authors and thought I would share what I learned. It is still in active development. Multiplay gameplay works "pretty well" and they are working on single player as well as the new website.
Here's the game's trailer in case you've missed it:

GyroVorbis posted an update on Elysian Shadows, a homebrew 2D RPG, for Dreamcast and PC:
You are probably asking yourself "What the hell happened here!??" Good. After more drama than an episode of LOST, Marcel (Level Editor) and Cypher (Music) have both quit the team (good riddance). Kendall (Engine), Pritam (Concepts/Pixel Art), and Thomas (Music) have all joined the party. We're back, and we're pissed.
First of all, this is not "The Adventures in Game Development Chapter 17." With all of the new blood on the team, we're determined to break new ground in computer science, engineering, art, music, and software development. We would like to concentrate on the development of Elysian Shadows rather than the development of a generic engine and editor as AiGD did. We are also trying to show the entire development process INCLUDING areas such as art and music from team members who aren't even in the same country.
Marcel (and his level editor) have been replaced by Alex (MarauderIIC). He began writing a new level editor from scratch a few weeks ago. It is being written in C# and has shown a significant amount of progress in a very short amount of time.
Kendall and Falco have ripped the entire ES Engine to shreds and have started a rewrite in order to accomodate a plethora of newly planned features for ES (rigid body physics and PSP port to name two). Kendall is currently working at a higher level on the engine itself. Falco is working at a lower level to create a multiplatform library "libGyro" capable of powering Elysian Shadows on the PC, Sega Dreamcast, and Sony Playstation Portable.
Pritam has been working his ass off to create concepts for every party member based on our storyline. It's a tough job, and just one character has taken dozens of iterations to tweak to perfection. Once the character concepts are complete, sprite creation can commence.
Thomas, our newest recruit, has been working on sound and audio production for a couple of weeks now. After presenting us with a demo that literally blew us away, we knew that we wanted him. He has been experimenting with fusing different kinds of sounds including orchestra, electronica, and elements of rock to create a unique atmosphere for Elysian Shadows.

News via Dreamcast ES
If you do not know this website, you say that is a great community where users register and publish their source code for free. Most authors are Francophone, but there are also plenty of interesting games and programs, and some of them easily portable for the Dreamcast
This week I wanted to make a case for card games and I was able to meet with several games on the web. I have also practiced a lot with the Allegro library of Dreamcast and the truth is that it gives excellent results
Let's start with because the news! We offer a summary of each port, and for more information and download go to the download section (requires free registration).
- Videopoker 2: This game in SDL allows us to give us some rooms (virtual) simulating the behavior of a machine Videopoker. The game is simple and fun with music.
- BlackJak_Amk: A classic of the letters made with Allegro. Not bad for testing (the game is made in 2003), but if you play well you recommend blackjack next port ...
- BlackJack_Allegro: This version of blackjack is more polished and beautiful than the previous port. Is at work and I personally recommend. In addition is also made with Allegro: D
Well, we have sold all the fish today, just expect that you like, if you want to comment and give a big salute to all the community dreamcastera ^ ^.
