First off let me say that things have been slower, well especially from me just lately, one reason severe tootache for 2 weeks (the dentists fault) and now and the last 4 days a rather severe cold so thanks to all who keep the site going in both the forums and newsposting, your help is always appreciated.[br][br]Onto these google ads, its been brought to our attention that theres been some Back up /warez ads in the google ads.[br]Our host Martin64 is doing his very best to stop them coming on the site with the available filters that google give him to use.[br][br]That said one or two have been getting through the net it seems and i apologise on behalf of this site, This site does not support any talk of back ups/warez or other matters related to them.[br][br]Google really do need to sort this problem out and if anyone sees an inappropiate ad then please complain to Google as we will too then maybe we will see the disappearence of these nuisance back up ads.[br][br]I do however have to point this out, DCemu Uk is hosted by the Emulation 64 Network of sites and therefore has to have the google ads to survive so theres no other realistic option to pay for the major bandwidth we use.[br][br]Thanks for your time

The Ascension of Vigil 12/8/04 Patch has been released. This replaces the ledge checking code for jumping with a completely new formula created by Tyne. You'll no longer see monsters jump at stairs, at walls, down stairs, up stairs or anything else that's considered to be stupid. This new formula is pretty darn powerful if taken advantage of. Tyne even goes so far as to call it the best jumping AI ever coded in Quake, as he's that proud of it.[br][br]Tyne also mentioned that monster deaths are "a lot sweeter looking".[br][br]To install this patch, extract normally, overwriting the progs.dat (this patch also contains 1 new sound effect)[br][br]http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=57434&start=160

(info from http://dreamflint.com that nuckles87 learned while talking with one of the producers at the SEGA boards)
The two unofficial sequels to John Romero's ambitous flop make their way to the Dreamcast. Article by nuckles87.
The unofficial sequels to John Romero's ambitious and infamous first person sword game, "Daikatana", have been announced for the Dreamcast by First Person Interactive and Developers United.
After being persuaded by its publisher, Chaos Software, and one of the game designers, Corbin, FPI and DU have decided to make a Dreamcast version of their first games. Currently, only the PC version is planned to see a retail release, while the Dreamcast version will see a limited "underground" release. However, they are looking into other possibilities for distributing the games.
The two games will be very different in nature. Soul Edge (final name to be decided), being developed by FPI, is planned to take more of a first/third person action RPG angle, while Shadowcaster, being developed by DU, is going the exact opposite direction as a pure first person shooter game.
However, despite their different styles of play, both games will share one engine: the Smooth Engine. Indicating some pretty smooth graphics, we can expect graphics out of this game that will blow away most any other DC project since the consoles demise, including Feet of Fury and the Ascension of Vigil. While no screenshots have been released, the developers are hinting at great things.
The PC versions will see a release in Summer 2005. This is when they plan to start development on the Dreamcast version. This will not be a port, mind you. It will be built from the ground up for the Dreamcast to utilize its features and graphics. Among the features this game will support is online play (possibly cross platform with the PC version) and co-op play. Not much else is known about the DC version, except for the fact that it will retail for $15 (as opposed the $35 PC version).
Now, in the area of advritising, FPI and DU plan to launch an internet campaign using the "Sega Scream" slogan, to hopefully capture the hearts of old school Dreamcast fans, and get them to buy it. With any luck, it will work.
The developers have also opened their doors to suggestions from the public. If you would like to comment on their project, or give suggestions, go to this site: http://www.fpinteractive.info/forums. This is serious, Sceners. It is not a hoax.

Tyne has updated his awesome Quake Mod for the Dreamcast and PC, heres whats new:[br][br]- Vigil is now able to latch onto flat walls and either do a fast jump kick off or jump higher in the opposite direction allowing for verticle tunnel jumping like Ninja Gaiden. [br]- Lightning Storm has been rebalanced once more. [br]- New special effects! Slow motion has been added (doesn't interfere with gameplay, untested on Dreamcast), and 3D shadow trails to certain moves, particle effects. [br]- RPG Stats, leveling up is now included in the gameplay. Leveling up increases Vigil's health and mana. [br]- Death bug has been eliminated, I've tested it over a jagillion times and I could not reproduce it. [br]- "Tweaked" 2D sprites and some graphics/animation. [br]- Gameplay Demo is no longer ran and boots directly to the title screen, however you can still load it up manually. [br]- Vigil's starting health have been altered down to 75 in order to work better with the leveling up system. [br]- Mana is now capped according to your level! [br]- New additional sound effects and animations. [br]- Vigil can now properly descend stairs without "twitching", climbing stairs has been drastically improved but does the odd animation twitch rarely. [br]- Monsters now wake up when attacked with a spell if they hadn't noticed you before-hand. [br]- Due to additional movement code to help Vigil climb stairs properly he now also begins to slow down near ledges, I'm kinda fond of it since it will help prevent you from falling down a pit (when they're added). [br][br]Most likely there's a few other changes/fixes/tweaks here undocumented, this version really changes the gameplay. Please give me input on the RPG Stats and new implemented features.[br][br]Download from Here

Ive got an idea so bear with me while i explain my intentions.[br][br]We has all the coders that visit here know a Private Developers forum that only coders/staff can see and visit for talk of private work etc.[br][br]Now our friends at GP32 Extreme have a Public Beta Testing forum where basically you use the public as testers with no guarentees that stuff will work but if it does then youll be very lucky to sample games etc early.[br][br]This doesnt have to be a Dreamcast only Beta forum but there will be rules made up if the idea seems ok by you the visitors to DCEmu and its Multiple site forum.[br][br]So my question. Would a Public Beta Testing Forum be wanted?[br][br]Let me know in the comments

Been a quiet few weeks in the scene with a few notable exceptions,is this the calm before the storm?, well come Xmas we should see some Major developments if all the work going on in secret comes to be released, can i divulge?[br][br]No i cant and wont but you should all be smiling soon enough, we also have the ongoing Dream Coding Grand Prix contests which should provide some new homebrew for our scene.[br][br]Hopefully the V2 of our site will come soon (well as soon as LyonHrt returns :P), we are going to open a Dev.dcemu.co.uk which will be ran by the coders for the coders and will feature source codes to every Dreamcast project that has released them.[br][br]On the comercial Dreamcast front, Chaos Field is coming in a few weeks so lots of interest there.[br][br]Some sad news this week from the Spanish side of the scene, apparently MadriDC has closed its doors, does this mean no more UAE4all/DCaSTaway?, more to come on this subject.
