April 11th, 2005, 22:54 Posted By: wraggster
It was at this time a year ago that i launched DCEmu UK, a Dreamcast Emulation, Homebrew and Commercial News and Scene Site with forum integration.
The site was launched to compete directly with the likes of Consolevision and DCEmulation and to one day supercede them as a major force in the emulation scene.
My first quest was to find hosting and decent hosting which was free and with hosts that i can talk to if i have problems, with that in mind i asked friends on IRC like Keith of Emufanatics and also Passive of Emuhelp and they said Martin the admin of Emulation 64 and a network of 150 sites may host me. Luckily for me he did and so the hosting was sorted. Next was the domain name, i wanted Dreamcast.co.uk but alas i couldnt get it i did however get dcemu.co.uk and Dreamcast.org.uk but in the end decided to go with the shorter name.
The design of DCEmu UK was a design by James of XboxRules.com a site which has died now for reasons i cant work out. I changed a few things and installed Yabb and Coranto and with LyonHrts help the site was started, i gathered every emulator for Dreamcast and any files i could find to make the site with every single emulator for and of the Dreamcast.
Onto Easter 2004 the opening of DCEmu UK a site that aimed to make the scene shudder and to make the other sites pull their socks up. Some scoffed at the idea of me running a site other thanked me but gave the site a few months before it died, how very wrong they are and were.
Me and LyonHrt were joined by Soully and later by Darksaviour69 (Boob!) and the DCEvolution and DC Stuff teams who are Christloeseruser, Curt Grymala, DCDayDreamer, Captain Skyhawk and also friends from DCEmulation, Dr Zoidberg and Hawq and with help from the likes of Wacko who helped me with the new logo.
We had a Dream team of Dreamcast scene members all of them hard working in different ways and all massively behind the Dreamcast scene and full of energy.
The last year has seen this site making friends with the international Dreamcast scene bringing members and sites of French and Spanish speaking langages closer to the English speaking sites. We have also seen many coders come over to the Dreamcast scene from the GP32 scene, some of those coders include Chui, Scherzo and Tyrell.
The last year has seen Amiga, Atari ST, NeoGeo CD emulation and thats just some of the many great releases for the Dreamcast Scene.
Over the last year we have gone from the new kid on the block to the only Dreamcast Site that is updated all the time and a great forum as well with a staff that are the very best.
The next year and into the beyond will continue to be great for the Dreamcast and its scene as many more releases happen and sites like this continue to post news and promote.
Thanks to all who visit and to all those coders and helpers and also all the names above and anyone else who make the scene what it is and may we have many more great years .

Darkhalo2k has released a new Quake mod for the Dreamcast, heres what he says about the mod:

ZERO is a Quake mod based around Ajay's original. Created in only seven hours (ten if you include some extra fluff), this mini mod will likely only take you around five minutes to complete. The zip file comes setup with RadQuake, so you simply need drop in your Quake PAK files and can burn immediately to disc. The first mod to really specialise in RadQuake play, the mod includes some custom VM images.
I learnt a lot of new things in the making of this mod, and will soon be moving onto another RadQuake mod; a Botmatch TC that the whole community could get involved with! Anywho, thanks for your time.

I made a small collection of good Dreamcast homebrew games for myself and i thought, why don't i put it on my uni account, i never use it, so:
here you go
use cdi2nero to convert it to a nero image (it a diskjuggler image)
it has Gianas Return, Brkout, Btime, Bugs_v2, CoolHerders, DCSquares, Grande, Joggle, EchosQuest, SmashDC and a old version of The Ascension Of Vigil (01-28-2005) etc.
thanks to sbiffy.com and M@jk for the sbi's
enjoy

Massive news article from Lik Sang:

We've featured news items on hundreds of different games over the years, but one a month ago on a new Dreamcast shooter, Trizeal, was something quite different. The passion which poured out across the website of the developer, Triangle Service, seemed to cut through the foundations of the corporate gaming industry today and go back to a pure love of developing games, and playing games. Their "SOS" message was quite honestly the most unprofessional thing we've ever seen on an official website, but also the most touching one. Since then the title climbed our pre-order charts, surpassed modern day console releases, reached the number two spot, and now, is in stock and shipping.
Getting back to their "SOS message", which was surprising and somewhat insane (save us from the Spanish bulls??), the developers explained the trouble they were in, and it can be read in both Japanese and English. Releasing their first shooter, XII Stag, they ran out of money and were faced with a tough choice. The founder and several other like-minded "samurais" decided to go into debt to ensure their game was finished and "came into the world". This group however, make no attempts to hide the fact both XII Stag and their latest title, Trizeal have developed poor revenue streams in arcades, and one can only assume pre-orders for the DC release weren't exactly rolling in at that time either. In fact at one point their website was suspended, with a message from the hosting company asking them to contact the billing department.
Now long gone are the days of arcades filled with shoot 'em ups, as are the days when a few guys could get together to create a game they wanted to, have it published, and see it on the store shelves. This was the videogaming industry style of the 80's and early 90's, not the multi billion dollar mass market ways of today. Triangle Service however seem to be the opposite, as the creator is on his hands and knees literally begging for people to buy his game.
Trizeal has now arrived to stock, and while preorders are getting cleared, new purchases from Dreamcast resistants are welcome. Trizeal is a vertical scrolling 2D shmup, following the stepstones of Ikaruga, Chaos Field and other recent shooting efforts for the supposedyly dead Dreamcast.

Heres a couple of screenshots:

Those of you who like me have always wanted to have a go at Dreamcast Development but never had the balls to do it or just dont plain understand all the malarkey will be jumping for joy with this news.
The great one otherwise known as Metafox has opened up a Coding Learning School which takes those with no Dev knowledge and will hopefully turn a lot more people into coders. The forum contains 2 tutorials for now:
Tutorial #1: Setting up cygwin and KOS 1.2.0
Tutorial #2: Compiling your first SDL game
Check it all out at this Address.
Excellent news
