<a href="http://www.dcemulation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=57434&postdays=0&postorder=asc&sta rt=340" target="_blank" >Tyne</a> has updated his Quake Mod for the Dreamcast(PC and other ports too) heres whats new in this rather great new release:
<BLOCKQUOTE>New version of TAoV, this release is a huge update to the game involving many new gameplay changes/combos/bug fixes
List of important changes
-----
- HP Bars removed, they cluttered the screen and RPG and I agreed that they removed some of the games skill
- Vigil's round house kick can now be executed mid-air, this allows for a greater comboing potential
- Diving swallow is able to be executed mid air immediately after round housing an enemy!
- Horror's look slightly different
- Map01 Updated
- Castle.bsp updated with an updated design
- Backflip has been replaced with a new double jump, backflip is only used for the diving swallow attack (off the wall and midair) and recovering from a fall
- Vigil can ledge grab and hoist himself up like in Prince of Persia / Ninja Gaiden (xbox)
- Fixed grabbing so enemies fall out of the levels very very rarely, infact I haven't seen it happen yet; but I will not rule out that possibility
- High quality stereo music! darkplaces only
- Head Smash / Fire Head Smash now knocks opponents around
- Fireball increases the combo counter again
- Speed lines look a lot better and act a lot better
- Many bugs fixed, such as the magic menu being open even though Vigil is dead, animation fixes in strange circumstances and so forth
- Camera zooming has been tweaked
- Firebeam is no longer able to do 100+ hits, it's max is 35; these 35 hits are highly damaging AND it's now able to damage Wraiths!
- Mana increase a lot slower when Vigil attacks, this makes using magic more tactical and allows mana potions to become a more useful pickup
- Hell Knights are weaker then Barons, Barons are a lot stronger now
- Vigil's charge up attack (Hold Z, Release) is finished
- Help screens have been added finally, they're almost finished but good enough to present (Shows move list and spell descriptions!)
- You now must HOLD the block button instead of constantly tapping it
- Vigil's slice special has an additional two hits during the last attack
- Lightning Storm will no longer spam the screen nearly as much with white flashes (annoying...)
- Game now starts up with a small demo
And many more changes...
Try it out everyone and tell me what you think of these updates!
[edit]:
1. Yes, Vigil is still skinny - wait till A) A patch comes out or B) another new version
2. I need to update an entity so RPG will not get angry with me, it may fall into either category A or B</BLOCKQUOTE>

What with the recent cancellation of ECTS, GDCE and SCoRE, the UK games industry's event calendar has been looking empty of late - but an announcement today reveals that the Classic Gaming Expo is still taking place.
CGEUK was previously down to host the 'Retro Zone' at this year's Game Zone Live, but since that event was also cancelled the future had been in doubt. However, it turned out there was plenty of support for a standalone show, as CGEUK organiser Chris Millard told GamesIndustry.biz.
"We held the first Classic Gaming Expo last year, and it proved very popular. GZL approached us to do Retro Zone because we'd done a better job of exhibiting classic games than they had," he said.
"When we heard that GZL was cancelled, we approached all our exhibitors and supporters with the idea of doing our own separate event and the response was overwhelming.
"Every single one said they still wanted to be involved, and were prepared to move their schedules around to fit the new date," Millard continued. "Even our special guests rearranged their schedules for us."
CGEUK will now be held on Saturday August 13, when classic gaming fans can visit the Fairfield Halls in Croydon to see consoles, computers, arcade machines and pinball tables dating from the seventies right through to the nineties.
Gamers will get to go head-to-head on classic machines, competing at games such Outrun, Space Invaders and Pac-Man. There will also be competitions for gamers with disabilities - these are being organised in conjunction with OneSwitch, which manufactures and imports products for disabled gamers.
Special guests at the show will include Matthew Smith of Manic Miner fame, Andy Nuttall and some of his Bullfrog colleagues, plus Ocean Software staff. Archer Maclean will also be there to show off some arcade machines from his private collection.
When asked why there's still so much interest in classic gaming, Millard replied: "It's difficult to say... There are a lot of different answers.
"But overall, the simplicity of the games has a lot to do with it - the games are a lot more playable than some of the stuff that's out there now."
And retro gaming doesn't just appeal to older gamers, apparently. "When we first started taking classic games to events, kids were going straight for our machines. Rather than the newer consoles, they wanted to try out the Atari 2600s and the BBC Acorns," said Millard.
"For kids, it's fascination because they've never seen the technology before. For the 30-plus adults, it brings back memories and evokes a lot of nostalgia."
There are a limited number of stands left at this year's CGEUK - anyone wishing to exhibit should email Millard at chris@cgeuk.com. Tickets will go on sale shortly from the official CGEUK website.

Dream Coding Grand Prix 2004 was a great start to our annual Dreamcast coding Competition but this year i want the comp to be much bigger with say a 4 MONTH limit on the comp and the competition will have no limitations which means Fenix Games, Beats of Rage Mods, Doom, Quake Mods, Emulators, Homebrew, Tools , apps.
Anything and i mean anything as long as its legal :P
Im proposing prizes to be
Winner - Nintendo DS
Second Place- NeoGeo Pocket Colour & 6 Games
3rd Place - GameKing with 13 games
This competiion is not designed to harm DreamOn but coexist nicely with it. Ill Finalize everything soon, if any one wants to donate prizes (im looking at companys not individuals) then that would be excellent, im looking at starting on May 1st 2005.
I look forward to your thoughts and comments.

This time, the detective novel-like "Higurashi no naku koro ni" doujin PC game by 7th Expansion will be ported to Dreamcast and PlayStation2?. Alchemist (whom brought Baldr Force EXE to DC and PS2) will be responsible for porting the game, which features three separate murder cases which will come together in the end to complete the story. Unfortunately, an official release date hasn't yet been set.

News from Dreamcast Scene:
<blockquote>
The Breakpoint 2005 was a full success and the audience was crazy about our new stylish "Prestige" t-shirt, and all units were sold after two days.
For all who were left home we're currently doing a second production run with slightly detail improvements! See details for ordering at the merchandise site. Do you also remember that time when we first announced the "one" t-shirt back in December 2004? We made a normal production run and thought that it will stay "in stock" for at least half a year. But we were wrong, it was sold out a few days after the tUM*o4 demoparty and even the reproduction didn't last for too long. That was more than we ever expected, thanks fly out to all who bought one or two and supported us all the time! Because of the fact that even the third and last production run of the "one" shirt was sold way faster than expected, we will do antoher run for you - the first time all sizes (S to XXL) are available! </blockquote>
