Could Shenmue 3 be released on Xbox One? That all depends on how you interpret a new addition to the game’s Facebook page.
As added to the FAQs today: “Currently we are planning development only for PC (Windows) and PS4. Other platforms have not been decided yet. If other platform versions were added as rewards, an announcement would be made on the update page.”
This statement has led to some speculation that were the game to hit a certain unspecified goal on Kickstarter, Xbox One could be added as a platform. This seems unlikely, surely, seeing as Sony is helping to develop it.
The game’s FAQ has also added some more detail about its funding, questions of which were asked last week.
“No, we cannot make an open world game for $2m,” it now says. “Shenmue will be produced using both the funds raised from the Kickstarter and through other funding sources already secured by Ys Net Inc. We are very sorry, but due to contractual obligations, details of outside investments will not be disclosed.”
Speaking in a Reddit AMA, Suzuki also confessed that in his mind $10m is the magic crowdfunding goal that will allow him to fulfil all of his ambitions for the title.
“I will say this: if we reach the $5m mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality,” he confessed. “At $10m, it will truly have the features of an open world.”
Shenmue 3 currently stands at $3,524,474 on Kickstarter.
